This Year's Model Updates:

The 2008 Jeep Liberty has been fully redesigned. It remains true to its off-road heritage with two different four-wheel-drive systems to choose from, but much attention has been paid to improve on-road ride and handling characteristics via revised suspension and steering systems. Redesigned sheet metal projects an even more rugged Jeep persona, while inside there's more room, more creature comforts and an available new power Sky Slider open-air canvas roof. As with all new Chrysler products, this year's Liberty is also covered by a new limited lifetime powertrain warranty.

Pros:
  • Respectable off-road capability, simple and functional cabin, high towing capacity.
Cons:
  • Modest and thirsty V6 engine, poor headlight illumination, subpar interior materials, upgraded ride and handling still not as carlike as many rivals.

  • Great Car for the Money - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I test drove the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe, Suzuki XL7, and Subaru Forester before I bought my Jeep Liberty. For the money, it was by far the best deal. I went to a Chrysler/Dodge dealership to check out the Dodge Journey, saw the Jeep in the showroom, and it was love at first sight. I didnt even bother to drive the Journey.

I love this car. I had a 2005 Liberty, this 2008 is much better. The smoother ride, larger interior, this is a great car. I also recommend the Sky Slider Roof - it is great!

  • FAILS OFF ROAD - 2008 Jeep Liberty

The "Trail Rated" designation for this vehicle is a joke. This vehicle is fine; in fact very good, on pavement but a complete dud off road. The Sky Slider roof is noisy at highway speeds but the dealer tells me that that can be fixed. There is no way to fix the off road performance even with lifters. The ground clearance is just inadequate; a moderate two track ranch road results in intolerable high centering. Jeep trails are out of the question.

  • Throttle malfunction dilemma - 2008 Jeep Liberty

Leased this vehicle in January 2008. Have had 2 episodes of "throttle malfunction" where accelerator pedal sticks to the floor and vehicle speeds out of control. Dealer has had vehicle back 3 times and cant duplicate the problem so now vehicle sits in my driveway because no repairs have been made and I feel its not safe to drive. Unfortunately Ive had to hire a Lemon Law Attorney to help me break this lease and rid myself of an obviously unsafe vehicle to drive. The vehicle has stored codes that reflect this malfunction.

  • Tough look but practical car - 2008 Jeep Liberty

Bought this car for my wife. After looking at mom mobiles this one stood out as a much cooler ride that fit our needs of towing capacity, safety, and styling. She like that it was not too big and I like that it doesnt look like a space ship. The ride is much better than previous jeeps on the road and road noise is almost nil. The back seats have plenty of room and the roof rack is great for overflow luggage. Also discovered recently that the back seats recline which is a huge benefit since most SUVs this size make you feel like you are sitting in a church pew.

  • 08 Liberty is purely awesome - 2008 Jeep Liberty

I got this new Jeep about 7 months ago and It is the best car Ive ever ridden in, driven, and owned. It is the most comfortable ride of any car Ive had. My dads BMW doesnt even drive as well as the Jeep. It could be a bit more powerful. The manual transmission that happens to be $850 less than the auto solves the problem of fuel efficiency. The new Jeep styling has made a huge impression not just on me but on all my friends. There is a lot of room for a mid-sized SUV. The cars price, fair reliability, ease of driving, and small turning radius make it a great car for beginner drivers. And parents dont worry about safety, this car is a tank. buy this car and you wont be disappointed.

  • Great suv - 2008 Jeep Liberty

I was reading the consumer report article on the Jeep and was thrown back. They give some good feedback on performance but are off on comfort. Im 61 220 lbs and have plenty of room in the front, and when I take people for a drive, they all tell me they love the comfort and the ride of my jeep. Many people who have sene or have ridden in my jeep are looking to buy one, because they love the way it looks and drives. The only down side would be the engine. For example, my father a bought the new Lincoln MKX, where it has a larger engine, but consumes less gas. I think jeep needs to redesign the engine to get better gas mileage. Overall, I think this car is a big change from the last car.

  • Its a Jeep thing: Most dont understand - 2008 Jeep Liberty

First of all, this is the best vehicle I have owned and my 7th Jeep. Some vehicles just "fit" and some dont. This really fits well. The engineers did well with seat comfort, equalizing armrest height and control placement to make for a great experience. The best news: It looks like a Jeep, it drives like a Jeep and it feels like a Jeep, not a Lexus and fortunately not Toyota. I love the Skyslider, mine is quiet because they performed the TSB and installed a new bow. The ESP is amazing. I live in snow country in western New York and I rarely use the 4WD since ESP and all-speed traction control are so effective. I hope the Jeep brand and feel arent diluted in the future.

  • Jeep advocate - 2008 Jeep Liberty

My car serviceman predicted that the "end was near" on my old, but faithful 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee. So I started to shop around - drove several other smaller model SUVs but none felt as "tough" as the Jeep. AFter all, Jeep served me well over th eyears with virtually no car problems and I have never gotten stuck. In fact...I have never had to chain up! - I drive on dirt and remote snow covered mountain roads every day and this 2008 Jeep Liberty 4WD rocks!

Got this for the Sky slider roof (trading in a Miata because I needed more space). Now I have a "convertible SUV" with all the space and comfort I need. Even my 74 year old dad says that it rides beautifully! Highly recommend!
