This Year's Model Updates:

The 2008 Jeep Liberty has been fully redesigned. It remains true to its off-road heritage with two different four-wheel-drive systems to choose from, but much attention has been paid to improve on-road ride and handling characteristics via revised suspension and steering systems. Redesigned sheet metal projects an even more rugged Jeep persona, while inside there's more room, more creature comforts and an available new power Sky Slider open-air canvas roof. As with all new Chrysler products, this year's Liberty is also covered by a new limited lifetime powertrain warranty.

Pros:
  • Respectable off-road capability, simple and functional cabin, high towing capacity.
Cons:
  • Modest and thirsty V6 engine, poor headlight illumination, subpar interior materials, upgraded ride and handling still not as carlike as many rivals.

  • New OLs Jeep - 2008 Jeep Liberty

Traded the OLs JGC in for improved economy on gas mileage on another Jeep. Liked the Patriot but once we drove the Liberty 100" we knew this was it. This is our 7th Jeep and is ideal for the OL car as she sits high and is in a sturdy vehicle so she feels safe.

  • Jeep Liberty 08 and going strong! - 2008 Jeep Liberty

Every day I get into my 2008 Jeep Liberty and its like a new SUV to me. I love the interior layout- easy to use iPod and sound system. Did not get GPS-- dont need it, so other features are housed there. Fabulous off road- after I upgraded the tires to the Firestone, Destination A/Ts. Now I have a lot more confidence. Use this for trailering, skiing, dog and vacationing- LOVE IT! Didnt listen to reviews- and glad I got it. Its been really fun to drive.

  • Liberty is under rated - 2008 Jeep Liberty

It appears that the Liberty is under rated by most review sites and is a very good vehicle if it meets your needs. I drive dirt roads almost daily and not all vehicles can take that pounding. The car is functional, rides comfortable and can handle the back roads. Made sure to get the all terrain tires (all of the vehicles at dealerships were 4x4 but only a few dealerships had the all terrain tires) and the Jeep green color is nice as well. Ample storage space inside and fun to drive as well. Although gas mileage is below average the vehicles are selling well below the competition and that more than makes up the difference. Only down side appears to be a little too much wind noise.

  • Its a fine vehicle except for one thing... - 2008 Jeep Liberty

My Jeep now has 66,000 miles on it and it has been a very solid vehicle. It has also been stone cold reliable. The only reason I haven’t rated it 5 stars across the board is because while I like the design of the interior, the typical Daimler mandated cost cutting cheap plastic materials are everywhere. Also, I think some of the exterior design could’ve been better. I’m not a fan of the giant squarish looking plastic covers over the headlights. Give me the design Bantam/Willys started with..so that means round headlights please. Other than the interior plastic and some exterior design issues I couldn’t be happier with my Liberty.

  • Sky Slider does have wind noise - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Great vehicle. I have only owned Toyotas in the past and my wife currently has a RAV4, but I am EXTREMELY impressed with my new Jeep. How can you pass up a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty for free, and a Lifetime Bumper to Bumper warranty for only $2400? I will never buy an over- priced Toyota again! I absolutely love the Sky Slider roof and always drive with it open, but when the roof is closed it does create pretty significant wind noise on the highway when driving 70-75 mph. Overall, I have only experienced minimal wind noise with the Sky Slider closed in the 60-65 mph range!

  • Excellent - 2008 Jeep Liberty

I like my 2008 Sport 4x4 Liberty. It is much more comfortable than my old pickup truck. Gas mileage is as reported (4x4 15/21 mpg). I just took a trip of 900 miles loaded with my stuff (2wd mode) in the cargo area to confirm. This SUV is way off the ground and from measurements up to the antenna stands about 6 6". So be sure it can fit into your garage. The response seems a bit sluggish when accelerating, but it is a heavy vehicle. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

  • Flaking paint on door console - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I had to have both door panel console parts that house the window controls replaced. They were actually peeling. My passenger window power switch has been replaced and I am hoping nothing else goes wrong. A sharp looking vehicle. My 2nd jeep - first was the redesigned Cherokee Limited

  • 3rd Jeep & Cherokee Satisfaction - 2008 Jeep Liberty

Ive previously owned a 1990 Cherokee and a 2001 Cherokee Sport, both great vehicles. This new Liberty redesign was the perfect fit for my family now and my wife loves it, despite some reviews of it being too masculine. Its a pretty incredible vehicle and the fact that you can get a fully loaded, roomy real Jeep SUV for ~30k is amazing. I was very sad when Jeep discontinued the classic Cherokee in 01, but the new styling, size and features on the Liberty definitely show that it is the real successor to that line.

  • FOR REAL! Best SUV / CAR in the World for the money! - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Have owned s-class Mercedes, 7-Series BMWs, Audi A-8 etc. But they are all way over-engineered hence have allot of problems. Our 2008 JEEP Liberty is the best suv / car in the world. Its great looking, safe, reliable, offers tremendous value etc. The best thing that I have done in 2010 is sell our 745Li and purchase a used 2008 JEEP Liberty. and but a 2008 JEEP LIberty.
