Overview & Reviews
For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.
- Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
- Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

Liberty scores a home run - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By dhmeieio - September 15 - 2:00 amIve been driving a 4wd Renegade for 3 months. This has included desert off- road and snowy mountain driving. Performance, reliability and fit/finish have been excellent. Gas mileage is not good (about 17.5 combined city/highway), but reflective of a fairly heavy vehicle with a strong engine.

Love everything but the gas... - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By heather - September 12 - 11:00 amAbsolutely love the Jeep! The ONLY thing I dont like about my Liberty is that is guzzles more gas than a bowl of chili can produce. Living in Texas and having a family of chili lovers, thats saying a lot! I have to fill up normally twice a week. I only work 8 miles from home and dont do much traveling around as we tend to use my husbands Prius for everyday chores and still have a gad problem with the Liberty. I only get 14 miles to a gallon. NO LIE check my bank account. Lol Otherwise its an excellent car. I have 45,500 miles on it and unless gas prices go down anytime soon (cant see filling up my 14-16 gal tank at 5 bucks a gallon in this lifetime) then I plan on keeping my Jeep.

THE VEHICLE FROM HELL - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By TEDDY - September 9 - 10:00 amThis vehicle drove fine when we drove on the highway and access roads. We had it for less than 12 hours and returned it because the city streets and ride were so punishing. I drove 6 miles got out and the back pains were unbelieveable. I have run 3 marathons and felt better after those endurance events than 6 miles of CITY STREETS with the Liberty. The vehicle also idled roughly. I have vehicle that is 15 years old a 3 Series BMW that will run circles around any SUV and not punish you. It had a very stiff sport suspension that now feels like a Rolls Royce. UNBELIEVABLE. It used 5.5 gallons for slightly over 40 miles.

Jeep Liberty is SUV Sports Car - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By samhrogers - September 9 - 10:00 amWhile a bit short on rear cargo room, there is nothing else bad to say about the Liberty. After one year, I still love it as much as I did the day I brought it home. This model far out plays the more staid Cherakee (which I used to own prior to the Liberty). There is no doubt about it that a loaded Liberty is the best deal money can buy.

Liberty not Liberating - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By Christopher Schisler - July 23 - 10:00 amDont buy this Jeep. It is THE most uncomfortable car I have EVER driven. It gulps gas. It has been back to the shop with transmission and engine problems twice. I chose the liberty over the escape for looks...shouldnt have been so shallow...I think the escape is a better ride.

Liberty 4x4 Limited - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By Brent - July 17 - 3:06 pmI have owned my Liberty since April of 2007 (used of course). Purchased with about 51,000 miles. The only complaints that I have about it is that the stock tires on it are terrible even when the ground is just slightly wet. It is very dangerous and I think Chrysler shouldnt and should never again sell any of their cars with these tires. Im having the tires replaced with Bridgestones, a much better tire than the Goodyears that come on it. In addition, when you are coming to a stop it is almost as if the car sputters or clunks Im not too sure how to describe it. Im thinking it is coming from the transmission and I hope this isnt going to turn into a problem. Overall a very stable vehicle.

Great Car! - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By PJChloe - July 6 - 10:00 amIve had this car for about 6months and I love it!! Its a great "looker" and rides good too. More room inside than I thought at first. When I laid the seats down, I was able to fit a recliner in there. It has great pick up when pulling out into traffic and can turn on a dime.

Outstanding! - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By curtpenn - June 30 - 10:00 amIve had my Liberty for almost 1 year and 14,000 miles now. Only been in the shop once soon after we got it to adjust a few things (rear windshield latch needed to be tightened). I got about 13-14 mpg until around 7,000 miles (in town driving). Now always get 17+ around town. Love the design, rock-solid feel, and nimble handling. I have 2 kids near driving age and will strongly consider getting a used one for them in a couple of years. Couldnt be more satisfied.

Great Concept - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By Doctor - June 27 - 2:00 amMost of our driving is in the outskirts of a major city, so the restricted side view was hard to get used to. 16K plus in the last year, its a terrific vehicle to drive. Two long road trips, both very comfortable. Off road in the Virginia mountains- Excellent performance. Not challenged at all by National Forrest trails. Replace the standard 16 tires ASAP with lower profile/wider skins- DRAMATIC improvement in all on/off road driving characteristics and stability. Thinking of buying another in a couple of years.
