  • Looks Good - 2006 Jeep Commander

We purchased our 2006 Commander used with only 5,000 miles on it. The car is great looking with an awesome interior design. The sound system is pretty good and the comfort of the car is out of this world. This car handles extremely well in snow. The car is solid & feels very safe. Driving is fun if you can look past the awful gas mileage, this car is a guzzler. We get about 12.5 mpg city and about 18 highway, not the best. The car stalled a few times but we arent sure what caused it. During the extremely cold winter the car would cough when started (not garaged). The passenger side window is possessed but I guess its a known computer error that hasnt been figured out yet.

Traded a Lexus LX470 for Commander Limited with 5.7 Hemi. Have been on two road trips totaling over 2000 miles. Has performed without a flaw. Ride is better than Lexus. Appointments are inferior especially the navigation system. Commander has blind spots on both sides when driving. Rear seat positioning is unique and comfortable especially for taller people. The Commander in black with chrome wheels is an eye catcher. Have had no negative comments except most think it is a new Hummer H3. I suggest getting the Hemi for both performance and fuel economy. You will feel the shift between four to eight cylinders on highway driving but it is minimal.

I traded in my 2001 Trooper with 156,000 miles for this brand new Commander. Fuel tank is a big disappointment - only 17.2 gallons. However, I have increased my highway mileage to an average of 20.6 MPG by adding in a bottle of gas treatment or fuel injector cleaner with every other tankful. City driving is approx 16.5 MPG. I have a possessed passenger window. Not thrilled about gas cap - anyone can open it, no safety lock. Not much cargo room (Trooper held a sheet of plywood with ease) and the loss of 3"-4" because of 3rd row seat now folding level with tailgate. Molding not glued to back door frame. Replaced windshield which also took part of factory molding with it!

  • Love it - 2006 Jeep Commander

So i just bought a 06 Commander used. Its the 3.7L. I love it, except for the gas mileage. My co-worker has the 4.7L and gets better gas mileage. I think part of the reason is because it takes a lot less effort for the V8 to move the vehicle then it does he V6. If i could buy again I would get the V8. Otherwise, I love it

  • Love my Commander, except for a glitch! - 2006 Jeep Commander

Ive owned my 2006 Commander for about 1 1/2 years and I love the ride. It was a big step up from my Mitsu Diamante. I needed something bigger for the growing family. The ride is so smooth. My girls love to go for a ride every night and fall asleep. The glitch is that recently Ive been driving and the truck turns of by itself for no apparent reason, itll turn back on when you restart it.

I LOVE MY JEEP! This is the second Jeep Ive owned, and I am absolutely in love. The gas mileage stinks, but no surprise there. This is a great sized vehicle - bigger than a Grand Cherokee, but smaller than a Tahoe. Great for fishing, hunting, skiing, and getting around town. My black lab loves it too!

Have been driving nothing but Chevrolet Tahoes for past 10 years. Wife and I decided to downsize to small suv, but could find nothing that we both agreed upon until we saw the Jeep Commander Limited. We both fell in love with the look and the ride. We were also impressed with the quietness. The interior design leaves little to be desired, but miss armrests, and automatic lumbar support. (The limited has pretty much everything else standard, why not these items?). We really havent had it long enough to find problems, if any. To be fair, am rating the gas mileage after only 2 tanks of gas. Hope for improvement once we get some miles on it. Miss the room of the Tahoe.

  • Thirsty but fun - 2006 Jeep Commander

I initially had my heart set on a Durango, but also had my eye on the Commander. The first I drove a Commander was in my test drive (I usually try to rent a potential purchase for a weekend) and was impressed. I think the quality of materials and assembly are on par with its cost. Not luxurious, but comfortable, particularly with the leather like mine. The back-up sensor is a must, given that the stadium seating limits rear visibility. If you require all 3 rows plus a lot of storage, you might look at something else, because with those seats up, theres only about 8" of storage space. It meets my needs, as I only occasionally use the 3rd row. One really bad thing is the awful mpg.

  • Strong and safe - 2006 Jeep Commander

Well first let me tell you this is the best Jeep yet. The ride is really nice and all the safety features will help you if in a accident. People say this SUV is bad on gas, well I say lighten up on the gas pedal! This Commander get ok gas mileage for its size, keep in mind there is alot of steel here. We have hear of others having issues with their Commanders but for us, it been 100% problem free. Our Commander has 65,000 miles on it and it drives the same as day 1. We travel alot and feel very safe in our Commander and in the future, we will buy another with out question. Would we recommend this SUV? The answer is yes but dont buy it if you expect the best gas mileage. Its very heavy!

Love the vehicle (4.7L), the trips to the service department, not so much. 6 trips for "service 4wd system". Finally fixed by replacing internal switch in transfer case. Occasional horrible noise from driveshaft, cause yet TBD. Windows have a mind of their own and occasionally reverse directions in auto up/down. Slow engagement of tranny in reverse after sitting overnight, sometimes creating a loud screech. Significant vibration from an unknown source when turning from a stop. Has stalled several times while backing from parking place. Hopefully, all the kinks can be worked out. Plus side, Jeep finally did something with the Headlights on their vehicles, these babies light up the night!
