Wanted an suv and loved the Jeep commander as soon as I saw it. Truck drives very smooth and gas isnt as bad as people want to think it is. I am a little disappointed with the design and quality of certain aspects of this vehicle. The side of both passenger and drivers door collects a lot of rain in side and when opened does get all wet inside floor of truck. This has caused my doors to rust and creak. I just had get a new starter after only 40,000 miles. I take very good care of my truck so now sure why I need a new starter already and dealership had no idea either. They said they never have seen it before. Also my back sensors have pushed in and every time I back up it beeps no matter what

  • Love it, but looking for more - 2006 Jeep Commander
    By -

My 2006 Commander is the best riding and most comfortable Jeep Ive ever owned. With the incentives in place at the time I bought it, it was a real value too. The next time Ill be looking for: 1) A V-8 ... the V-6 is a bit underpowered; 2) Lets give the 3rd row seat some leg room; and 3) How about just a couple more inches of storage capacity when the 3rd row seat is opened? Would it help to hang the spare tire off the back, a la the Liberty?

  • Perfect Car for my family. - 2006 Jeep Commander

My parents bought this car in September after my sister and I begged for it. My mom was very hesitant at first because she thought that it was a Hummer. She also didnt want people to think that she was a gas guzzler. On the other end my dad, the typical manly man, loves Howard Stern (Sirius was a major plus), loves sports and he loves his new manly car. Also it was a huge improvement from our purple minivan. As a young person I was attracted to this car for the sunlights in the back and I also liked the silver handles on the door. When we went on our first big trip with this car we went to Palm Springs. Interstate 10 down there is very windy, and we could hear all of the wind!

I was excited to finally upgrade to this new Jeep from my reliable but old 95 Dodge Ram 2500HD 4x4 reg. cab P/U with over 150,000 miles. Excited to see the 3rd row (more family friendly then the P/U), and Jeeps backing of off-road performance and quality. However this is not the case. This vehicle has been a problem child since day one. With the whistling sounds, staining cloth seats, breaking vent covers, etc. and of course the poor mpg with a small fuel tank. Too bad the diesel isnt released yet with approximate mpg of 20+ as seen on the Liberty/Sprinter. On the plus side: tight steering, drives like a Caddy, pulls a trailer of 3,000 lbs with no problems.Cant wait for snow&go extreme off road to see what it can do.

  • Off-Roader - 2006 Jeep Commander

The commander is an excellent vehicle. Right away I was able to test it on snowy roads and it performed well. I have taken it off-road on a trail that I would never have gone in any other vehicle that I have owned. The problems that I have are with hthe braking system and the engine fan. Certain quality issues are problematic as well, arm rests are bubbling and the chrome trim is letting loose. Vehicle performs well when pressed and is comfortable to drive, very comfortable and a fun vehicle to own.

Owned my 2006 since jan 07 changed airbag module/anti-slip module, 4 wheel bearings@65,000 kilometers rear pinion seal, rebuilt rear end 125,000 km, exhaust manifolds gaskets, stereo- cd quit playing, wiring harness for Windows had to be repaired and not just replaced (electrical tape), third row seat needs part and not covered under warranty because it is an option also my heated side mirrors wiring problem not covered under warranty (option) replaced muffler with dynamax little bit louder but nice (wife not too pleased) instrument panel replaced-no lighting up, have 160,000 kilometers on this (majority highway) will be looking to replace Jeep shortly (Tahoe), no help from Chrysler when asking them questions,

  • Commander better than Grand Cherokee - 2006 Jeep Commander
    By -

I purchased a Commander recently and after test driving the new Grand Cherokee, I was convinced. The Commander takes curves and turns better, looks better, is bigger but not too much bigger; in short, its just better. Its basically the same price and for a few dollars more, you get the added comfort. I love it, and getting the luxury package is the same as getting the Limited, so you might as well save some money and get the luxury package.

  • Looks great but watch out for glitches - 2006 Jeep Commander
    By -

The style and performance on the Commander is great. However, our Commander is headed back to the dealership for the 4th time because of glitches with the engines computer. In the 8 months we have owned this car the check engine light has been on more than off. Last time the dealership replaced the entire engine computer which kept the check engine light off for about 30 days. Now it is back on yet AGAIN and the engine is running rough. I have been pleased with everything else but this one problem necessitating numerous trips back to the dealership makes me wish I had spent just a bit more money and purchased the Lexus SUV instead.

  • LOVE my Jeep! - 2006 Jeep Commander

I have never felt so safe in any vehicle! This Jeep has handled any weather we have had in a year and a half. I live in NW PA so we see a lot of severe weather. We had a small issue with the passenger window, but the warranty took care of that. I have had to replace the windshield 3 times since I bought it. Every time a rock hits it, it cracks! Only 2 complaints. The gas mileage is typical for an SUV (13 city/18 hwy) and room in the back (or lack of room). My whole family is tall (Husband, Wife & 2 girls) from 57" to 64". Unless my husband is driving, it is very uncomfortable for him. And although I appreciate that 3rd row is an option, we dont need it as much as we need the room.
