This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar beefs up its presence in the luxury category with the X-Type, a brand-new model that brings the company's range to four. The X-Type is a fresh breed of cat for the manufacturer: it's Jaguar's first-ever all-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's priced to tap the entry-luxury segment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable pricing, sporty handling, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual tranny.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • A Great Road Car - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

The people that dont like this car must be people that have not drive this car more than around the block. It has great handling, acceleration and a soul. It is not refined like a Toyota Lexus, but it also doesnt look butt ugly like one either.

  • X-Type Rates 5 out of 5 - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

For some reason, my review of the X-Type ("Edmunds Got a Lemon", 1/29/02)was listed as giving the car a 2 rating. Im not sure how that happened, but it mustve been a mistake, since I love the car. Hopefully, this follow-up review will clear things up. The X-Type deserves a 5 rating! (I noticed the same thing about some other reviews, such as "X-Type is an Excellent Car" and "Best in Class". Im sure those reviewers felt the car deserved better than a 2 rating, as well.)

  • X 2.5 Sport - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Ive put over 27k on my 2.5 X-type sport and have had few problems. Typical windshield jet seeping and trunk popper button are the only things Ive run across. Drove this through a huge snow storm in NY (from Boston to Detroit) and was blowing by SUVs. This car grips the road like none other and is a blast in the corners. 2.5 could use a little more kick, but w/ a 5 speed manual/Sport Pkg. its still a blast to drive. Great looks and awesome in the Michigan winters....wish I had opted for the heated seats though!

My Jaguar x-type just hit 120,000 and still drives great! My dad purchased the car in 2005 and recently I purchased the car since I commute to school. The car drives well, and is extremely responsive. Its a very high performance car, and will perform to keep you safe. The interior is like riding in your living room. The car is very good in the snow. I have the FWD drive model, and while everyone else is skidding off the road, I am moving along with no problems. We are located in Ohio and I have driven on some nasty snow packed country roads with it, and it performed great. As a student who commutes, I needed a safe reliable car and Jaguar fits the bill.

  • Great car, couple issues. - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Well I have to say that overall I love the car! However, the second week I had it (it was used 19K on it) the fuel pump went out during rush hour. After the initial nightmare of the towing, all was great with the Jag dealer. It is great looking, love the sunroof and it handles great!!

  • Great surprise! - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I finally realized how fun this car can be with a 5 speed! I love the navigation system. The car looks incredible as well. It is black with black tint all the way around with the sport package. Very sharp. The car is quiet and well behaved. I wish the tires were Z rated like the S-Type.

No other car rides as well and performs as well as my Jag X-Type. Sleek and sexy that I have people staring at her in awe. With All Wheel Drive it corners like it is on rails. I have wanted a Jaguar my whole life and this one was affordable for the middle class person looking for luxury and comfort. I would like to get one thing straight, Jaguars are not FORDs. My husband and I have been to England and believe me these cars are still made there. The only differance is FORD now is the mangement and the fact that they have some English class now. The other imports in that price range better worry. She is in a class all of her own.

  • What is Edmunds Thinking - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
    By -

You guys at Edmunds need to get together and reevalute this sexy, sleek car. What were you thinking? She is at least a 8. You really dont know what you are missing until you have driven her. BMWs and Mercedes should watch out. The Cats are Roaring.

  • Will Always Have One If Possible - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I love this car! It handles great. The car saved me 2 times from accidents on the interstate with its quick handeling. Also, I can count on the Jag to get me work in the ice and snow, I never had 1 problem getting around the past 2 winters. Customer service from Jaguar is also excellant. Two things I would change about the car is the sliding armrest and the pop out head lamp washers, Jaguar should get rid of both.

  • Safe fun - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I wanted a safe car that was fun to drive. My 3.0 X-type is just that.
