Overview & Reviews
The S-Type gets minor styling revisions in the form of smaller taillights, a tighter-looking deck lid and a restyled front fascia. New exterior panels have tighter fits, while the hood is now made of aluminum. Interior upgrades include new Bronze Madrona trim, a revised instrument panel and an optional aluminum trim package. Eight-cylinder models get a new VDP package that adds premium heated leather seats, burled walnut trim and unique 17-inch alloy wheels.
- Elegantly appointed interiors, solid all-around performance, classic British styling, full load of standard safety equipment.
- A few cheap interior bits, high price, fussy J-gate shifter.

My Beautiful Baby - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
By Maggie Cloud - May 8 - 10:00 amMy car is a 2005 S-Type Vanden Plas. I Traded in a 2001 S-Type 8cyl for it. This new car is a great improvement over the old one (which I was very fond of). It has a good solid road feel and the brakes are now very good. The red color is gorgeous! I am very pleased with this car.

Great Car - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
By albrtgld - March 21 - 10:00 amThis is my second Jag. First was a 1959 3.4 that I drove for 5 years. Never had any problems although in those years it was supposed to be plagued with electrical and other. In between I have had a BMW 528 and BMW 733. I couldnt resist the grill and overall shape and size that reminded me of my 59. When I took delivery there was not 1 item to be fixed. The ride is great...all the power, and more, than I will ever need. Engine is quiet. Interior noise is low. Fit and finish is excellent. I dont know where some reviewers claim there are a few cheap Fordlike parts in the cabin. This Jag is a fine automobile and I expect to get many enjoyable miles out of it.

Love Hate Relation! - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
By sharat11370 - January 8 - 1:42 pmThis is my 5th Jaguar! Right from owning my first Jaguar in late 70s, I promised myself that I would never buy a Jaguar but the one that I have is the fifth. This is like love-hate relationship! Like I do not want you but cannot live without you. Like husband and wife, always bickering and not functioning properly!

Wanted one, Bought one, Love it. - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
By Scott - January 5 - 4:43 pmI have wanted a Jag for several years so when the time was right I found a silver preowned S-Type online that checked out clean. I flew to Kentucky and bought it, driving 10 hours back to Arkansas that day. I loved the entire 10 hours and the fuel mileage shocked me with an average of 32 mpg @ 75-80 mph for the trip. I own a Lincoln LS (nice car too) and I have read several comparisons, but really there is no, the Jaguar exudes style, has a nice ride, shifts smoothly, and the 6 cylinder will surprise you with power. More back seat and trunk space than the LS too. It gets a lot of jealous looks and a lot of questions. I am very pleased so far.

Jags Made A Believer Of Me - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
By Former Audi/Benz Guy - September 27 - 7:46 amI dont know why some pundits love to find fault with the S-Type. It boasts the most indulgent design of anything in its class, it (the 4.2 V-8) delivers power with grace & decisiveness, and offers a thrilling drive experience. I cant find any areas in which Jag has "cut corners," but I would love to see more room in the rear seats and in the trunk. About the only major addition/change Id seek is a 4-wheel drive option. Nonetheless, this stylish British import has quickly won my heart ... and for a former Benz & Audi owner like me, thats saying a lot.

Disappointed - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
By slj769 - May 21 - 10:32 amI bought this car b/c Ive always wanted an S type...had the pre-purchase inspection, & all they had to say was it would need upper ball joints in the near future. But the price seemed right, so I bought it. A week later, the battery was dead, then every week after, the battery would die, faithfully. Come to find out, it has a parasitic drain that wasnt disclosed to us & I guess this is a huge problem with these cars. My husband traced it out, & its the GECM. Im disappointed that Jaguar produces such beautiful cars with such ridiculous flaws. I love this car, but hate this car. Other than that, its been great, but I wouldnt buy another Jag.

Jaguar S-type - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
By red rabbit - December 23 - 8:50 pmThe boxy back detracts from its classy design and some of the side lines look like dents from certain angles. Im also tired of the style of back bumpers in all cars these days since they definitely are not designed for "bumping". The paint dings on the broad canvas of the bumper look like hell. I knew the mileage per gal. would be lower than the 3.0, but I am surprised it is as low as it is...... 11 mpg in town and 17 mpg on interstates.

Incredible Car and a Great Value - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
By Steve - December 20 - 10:06 amAbsolutely love this car! Off the line performance put to shame my old 2001 996. Add 25 more HP, more aggressive differential and transmission gearing and you have the equivalent performance of BMW M and MB AMG at tens of thousands of dollars in savings. Ride is great and styling to die for...I get more walk-ups and comments on the Jag than the 911. The R is a rarety even in San Diego and people notice.

Excellent Car - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
By Steven Mc Cowan - September 9 - 5:53 pmThis is an excellent car. Well fitted panels and a beautiful interior. The car has surprising power and for a large car is fun to drive. This is a very competent road and luxury car. The seat placement memory is a feature that we particularly enjoy as well. Sales and service follow up have been excellent.
