This Year's Model Updates:

The sedan receives exterior styling revisions with a new hood, grille, bumpers, side sills, taillights and wheels. Sedans now make as much power as the coupes -- 280 hp (up from 260) and 270 lb-ft of torque (also up from 260) on models with an automatic transmission. Coupes and sedans equipped with a manual transmission get even more power (298 hp) but sacrifice 10 lb-ft of torque. Sedans with the sport suspension package also pick up 18-inch wheels and drilled aluminum pedals. All G35s get a redesigned instrument panel and console area with aluminum or wood trim, and the manual transmission has been improved to provide a lower shifting effort. A Sport version of the coupe debuts this year and includes an even firmer suspension, a limited-slip differential, 19-inch forged alloy wheels and drilled aluminum pedals. Oddly, though, Brembo brakes are no longer available on manual-shift coupes.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6, balanced and capable handling, roomy cabin, reasonable price.
Cons:
  • Average interior materials quality, touchy brakes.

  • So far, so good - 2005 Infiniti G35

Positives: Great car, overall. Exceptional power and comfort. Good visibility for changing lanes and backing. Various climate and stereo controls take some getting use to but make sense once mastered. My AWD X model is great in snow and the best thing going for slippery roads. The G35 is much more stable in dicey road conditions than my former Audi Quattro. Negatives: Optional mud guards do not prevent stone chips from occuring between the rear wheel wells and rear doors. Paint quality is a bit shabby. Dealer service rep (Elk Grove California) was not at all helpful with respect to addressing a couple of issues that I brought up during the 3,500 mile service.

  • Head said BMW 330i, heart said G35 coupe - 2005 Infiniti G35

On paper, the G35 has the BMW 330i beat. but the reality is slightly different. Both are very good cars but the BMW is - technically - better: the handling, build quality and interior are simply better - BMW have had many years to perfect this car. Also, although the G35 has more out and out power than the 330i, thats misleading. The peak torque arrives at a lower RPM in the BMW which means in practice that the G35 is not quite as fast from a standing start. Once it gets going (above 4000rpm), the G35 is very fast but isnt as much fun or as easy as the BMW to "point-and-and-squirt", especially around town. All said, I bought the G35 because I didnt want to be another BMW driver...

  • Very Poor Brake Quality - 2005 Infiniti G35

I have owned a 2005 G35X for only 21 months and it has cost me over $2,300 (no tires yet!) in maintenance expenses. Front brakes have been completely replaced and rear pads and rotors need replacing very soon. This is a very nice car to drive, but be prepared to spend big bucks in maintenance if you lease!

  • Nearly Perfect - 2005 Infiniti G35

Had difficulty finding "the car", but when I did, I bought it. Athens Blue 6MT with just about everything. Very stiff at first, but had become normal in 5K miles. Absolutely no problems. Fit and finish is flawless. The Nav. system is obviously a carryover from the Japanese Skyline since the joystick is on the right, making for a bit of a reach. Driver seat bolsters are little tight for a 280# person, but are molding with time. Seat adjustment switches need to be moved as do the seat heater switches. Car is a definite head turner. Infiniti did a beautiful job with the car. It is a joy to drive. Only wish LA freeways were less congested. One trip to San Diego was a kick.

  • Good Riddance - 2005 Infiniti G35

Ive owned many new cars over my lifetime and I can honestly say this has been by far the biggest dissapointment I have ever had. There is nothing worse than making a $500 car payment on a car that you are not thrilled with. Yes the exterior is phenomenal, but I felt like I was dating a supermodel without a brain or personality. The auto tranny was terrible(the manual isnt much better), the interior highly UNrefined, and the suspension very crude, having plenty of grip, but too harsh for roads here in New England. I guess if you drive in warm climates with no potholes, or havent been treated to having cars with some refinement, Im sure the car will be fine for you. No hard feelings.

  • Fast, agile, heavy, rickety - 2005 Infiniti G35

Ive had the car for about 1 year+ and my impression is mixed at best. Coming from a BMW 328i, I was lured by the lower price and 298 HP in the 6MT. The power is excellent, and really there. The ride is a bit firm, but the handling is not up to BMW par. Car feels much less confident than the 3 series. Also lots of rattles in the interior point to a less than careful build. Where I normally got 22-23 MPG in my 5 speed BMW, I get 19-20 MPG in the 6 speed Infiniti.

  • Amazing - 2005 Infiniti G35

I purchased my g35 coupe used at 27k. It has prem and nav pkgs but no sports because i live in nyc. I test drove one w/ a sports package and found it way too stiff. The handling limits of non-sports pkg are beyond anything id approach + the ride is better. The GPS is a lifesaver and is one of the best in the world. Very few cards can beat it in a straight line but most imporantly is the attention the exterior + exhaust gets. All of its competitors (330Ci, Acura CL, etc) blend into the crowd. The G35C is like an exotic car on the road. Every occasion i have to drive it is welcomed. Going to get groceries is fun. Ive had it only for a few days and ive already recieved many many compliemnts

  • Not up to standards - 2005 Infiniti G35

Ive owned this car since it was new, and Ive not been happy with it for a while. The tires dont last, the interior wears quickly (not that it looked that spectacular in the first place), the radio is less than user friendly, the paint is inferior and the road noise is simply unacceptable in a car that costs this much. Actually the road noise is worse than in my sons Toyota pick up truck or my wife convertible. And the turning radius is inferior to those vehicles as well, despite what edmunds or any other website might tell you. Not a fan of the traction/stability control - almost got me hit a few times by hitting the brakes and killing the accelerator. I now drive without it.

  • Nice Car with Good Balance - 2005 Infiniti G35

I was torn between buying an A4 3.0 (2005) or this car. I am happy with my choice except for a few things. The car does not have a gauge that tells the average miles/gal I am getting. Its pretty annoying trying to calculate it! There for some reason are little rattles in the interior cabin. When I go over bumps and play the stereo loud I hear them the most. The last thing would be the brake dust and the fuel economy. I was not expecting Honda civic gas mileage however I wasnt expecting it to be this bad. The acceleration is good but I dont feel as good as everyone makes it out to be. Overall this car is great for the AWD and added power. This is perfect for me, a college student w/no $.

  • Great car for the money - 2005 Infiniti G35
    By -

I have been driving my recently purchased G35x for a month now. Overall great car but you get what you pay for. Lots of power and smooth ride, most of the time. Beware of the rattles and tick noises. When test driving tell the salesmen to be quiet and turn off the so-so Bose stereo. Listen to the car over bumps and drive it on the freeway if possible. Once a noisy car always a noisy car. I have had mine in the shop/dealer for about a week trying to figure out where all the rattles are coming from. They are almost gone, almost. The phantom rattle in the center of the dash is the most elusive. Have the car inspected by a third party brake guy before you buy, this will save you later.
