This Year's Model Updates:

After receiving significant upgrades last year, the Sonata receives only minor changes this year. Among these are a battery-saver feature (in the event that any of lights are left on); illuminated window switches; a 12-volt power point in the trunk; and electronic, rather than cable-operated, releases for the trunk lid and fuel door. Additionally, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup in previous years, so the Sonata's four-cylinder is now rated at 138 horsepower (down from 149) and its V6 is rated at 170 (down from 181), though the engines themselves are unchanged.

Pros:
  • Excellent warranty, stylish sheet metal, pleasant highway ride, lots of bang for your family-sedan buck.
Cons:
  • Noisy four-cylinder engine, some cheap interior bits.

Needed a new car that had a good warrenty for the amount of driving I do. Wasnt sure about the Hyundai but after testdriving and looking I went for it. The best choice I made.

  • My Exquisite Sonata! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Ive owned a Silver 2003 Sonata LX (with ABS/Trac, Moonroof) for about 4 months with not a single problem. So far the car is very dependable & with the 5-years/60K bumper-to-bumper warranty, Im not much worried either. The looks of Sonata with the extraordinary warranty were the key factors for me to buy this car. The exterior styling of Sonata is stunning. Sonatas styling is the hybrid of Mercedes C-class and Jaguar. I personally think that Sonata is the most appealing car in mid-size car category. Im getting around 20-22 mpg in mix driving condition, which I think is very reasonable.

Bought with 23,000 miles on it and in two years, have not had one single thing done to it except change the oil. Has started every single time - even in 20-below zero weather. Like the style -too bad they changed it for 2006 - now you cant tell the Sonata from any other car out there!

The best riding vehicle I have ever owned so far. Ive ridden in many higher end vehicles and this equals or excels in this department.

  • Happy, happy, happy - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

I previously owned a Lexus 400, and thought I was spoiled. In a move to economize, I bought the Sonata. Of course, it does not perform like a Lexus, but I have been nothing but happy. I have 50,000 miles on it and it ahs not cost me an extra penny beyond regular maintenance and replacement of consumables. The dealers treat me like a Lexus customer. I will never buy any other brand.

  • I Just Bought Another One - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

I have driven this car the last 3 years and I just love it. It is quiet, has good handling and is comfortable. I make 500 mi trips regularly and this is the only car I can remember that allows me to drive 500 miles without giving me back problems.

This is my wifes car, she really enjoys driving the car, it has been good mechanically, although the rack & pinion needed to be replaced, other than that just the regular oil changes. If the car remains problem free for a couple more years, we would look into buying another Sonata.

  • Utterly amazing - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

I initially wasnt even going to look at the Hyundais when I was going to buy either a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord. However, when I read in Consumers reports that the Sonata had predicted above average reliability, much better than the new Camry, and slightly lower than the Honda, I had to take a look. And I walked out with a new car. After test driving the Honda and the Toyota, I couldnt believe the difference. For the same price as the base Honda/Toyota, I was getting a V6, leather interior, sunroof, 4 wheel disc brakes, better warrenty, amazing stereo - the best I have seen in any production car, etc.

I spent alot of time looking for a Sedan (was driving and SUV) and this is the one I wanted. Couldnt beat the price or the warranty. Every time I get behind the wheel I feel like Im driving an expensive sports car.

  • HYUNDAI GLS V6 - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

GREAT CAR FOR THE PRICE HYUNDAI HAS DONE A GOOD JOB ACROSS THE BOARD. HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR A MOUNTH BUT VERY PLEASED SO FAR. FIRST HYUNDAI WE HAVE OWNED. GET LOTS OF POSITIVE COMMENTS. HYUNDAI SHOULD NOT FITTLE WITH THEIR CURRENT ADVANCES IN LOOKS QUALITY AND PRICES. KEEP THE CUSTOMER AS THE FOCUS AND WE WILL LOOK AT THEIR OTHER VEHICLES FOR OUR NEXT PURCHASE. KEEP THE PURCHASE EXPERIANCE AT THE DEALER SIMPLE. WANTED TO CHARGE ME $425 FOR DEALER PREP. AFTER THEY UNDERSTOOD WE DONT PAY FOR THESE NEEDLES EXTRA CHARGES THE NEGOTIATION GOT MUCH SIMPLER AND AGREABLE FOR BOTH PARTIES.
