This Year's Model Updates:

After receiving significant upgrades last year, the Sonata receives only minor changes this year. Among these are a battery-saver feature (in the event that any of lights are left on); illuminated window switches; a 12-volt power point in the trunk; and electronic, rather than cable-operated, releases for the trunk lid and fuel door. Additionally, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup in previous years, so the Sonata's four-cylinder is now rated at 138 horsepower (down from 149) and its V6 is rated at 170 (down from 181), though the engines themselves are unchanged.

Pros:
  • Excellent warranty, stylish sheet metal, pleasant highway ride, lots of bang for your family-sedan buck.
Cons:
  • Noisy four-cylinder engine, some cheap interior bits.

  • Happy with my second Sonata - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

I have the 2003 LX w/ABS & TC. I am completely satisfied with the vehicle except for the gas mileage (18 MPG, 60-40 city/highway). But that should improve over time. I enjoyed my 2001 Sonata GLS Leather, too, until it was hit from behind while stopped by a car going 55 MPH and totaled (none of the four of us inside were injured). I have gotten nothing but compliments, including from the techs who installed by alarm system.

This car is one of the best values on the market. It has more standard features than many higher priced vehicles. The quality is excellent and the warranty is unsurpassed.

  • Watch out Honda, Toyota!!! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Absolutely all around great car. Smooth, yet aggressive when need be. I wish I had a nickel each time Ive received a compliment on it – I’d be rich! Buy one and I guarantee within a week you’ll be told it looks like a Jaguar. Gas mileage is better than expected and it handles better than my father-in-law’s Accord. Highly recommended, in case you can’t tell!!!

  • Review of 03 Sonata GLS V6 - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

We have had our 2003 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 for just over a year now and we could not be happier with it.This car is great and so reliable. Before this we had a Ford Focus which was declared a lemon. We then went back to Hyundais (this being our 5th) and test drove the sonata. We couldnt be more happier with our purchase.Everyone asks us if its a Jaguar.A relative in my family was so impressed with ours they went out and bought one.Hyundais are great cars and we are very happy with the purchase we made.If your looking for a midsize car go for the Sonata. You wont be dissapointed.

  • Hyundai after a year and 48K - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

I bought this car out the door for under 18K. That was primary reason for buying it. It has proven to be very reliable outside of a couple minor gliches. The V-6 got much peppier after about 5 thousand miles and drives very nice. I prefer a bigger car but for the size you can beat it for the price.

  • AWSOME CAR FOR UPSTATE NEW YORK - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

I just purchased a 2004 Sonata LX. I LOVE IT. The $$$$$ (price), the warranty, the dealership, were all AWSOME. There is no car on the market that will come close with ride, warranty, standard features and price. I looked at Oldsmobile, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagon, Audi (JUNK) and Buick. They all wanted TOOO much money for their cars with no options. The HELL with American (JUNK) made cars.

  • Get past the name - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Totaled my 2000 Grand Marquis and wifes truck bit the dust, both at the same time. Had to get something affordable. I got the GLS and wifey got the Accent. Both of thease cars are simply GREAT!!My Sonata drives and rides like a dream, a tad hard on BIG potholes but otherwise very fine. Drive 80-85mph to keep up with traffic here in Vegas, a breeze! Have over 10K miles on it, not a single problem. Im 6-4 and 240, enough room for me. Just love the car. I get a kick out of the jokers who spent $30-40K for a nameplate. Stop reading and go out and buy one of these incedible cars.

  • Solid car - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

I brought this car brand new (my first new car purchase since 1982) last April 22nd. The hook was the 0% financing offer. I really like this car. No, its not a Honda or Toyota (Ive owned both), but as the ad says, its thousands less! I have not been sorry I made this purchase. I added XM radio, and with the standard 6 speakers it is better than my home stereo!

  • Nice car - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

The Sonata is an overall stable vehicle. It makes for fun driving, especially with select sport shifting, and looks exceptional. The handling is very responsive, which adds to the exciting driving experience. The car has a great price, looks sharp, and makes for an excellent driving experience.
