Overview & Reviews
After receiving significant upgrades last year, the Sonata receives only minor changes this year. Among these are a battery-saver feature (in the event that any of lights are left on); illuminated window switches; a 12-volt power point in the trunk; and electronic, rather than cable-operated, releases for the trunk lid and fuel door. Additionally, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup in previous years, so the Sonata's four-cylinder is now rated at 138 horsepower (down from 149) and its V6 is rated at 170 (down from 181), though the engines themselves are unchanged.
- Excellent warranty, stylish sheet metal, pleasant highway ride, lots of bang for your family-sedan buck.
- Noisy four-cylinder engine, some cheap interior bits.

I LOVE IT! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By jason alvis - June 4 - 10:00 amTHIS IS MY SECOND SONOTA IVE PURCHASED, AND I HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT IT. I COMMUTE ABOUT 2 HOURS A DAY, BACK AND FORTH TO WORK, AND I ACTUALY ENJOY TAKING THE DRIVE INTO WORK, AND BACK HOME AGAIN. MY WIFE ALSO DRIVES IT, ALONG WITH MY TWO CHILDREN. IM A BIT OF A WORRY WART, BUT IM NEVER WORRIED ABOUT THEM BREAKING DOWN IN SOME DANGEROUS OR ISOLATED AREA. IF THEY WERE TO BREAK DOWN, I CAN RELY ON THE FREE ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM THEY OFFER AT HYUNDAI. ITS A NICE FEELING, NOT HAVING TO WORRY ANYMORE.

BEWARE....FALLING APART - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By Lori - March 19 - 7:32 pmBeware...this car is falling apart. Im reading all of the reviews and how happy owners are about their Sonatas. I am extremely UNHAPPY. I just took it into the dealer and it will cost me approximately $2000 to repair. The airbag light wont go off and cost $481 to fix-not covered under warranty. How is a safety device not covered under warrenty? They said theyare not sure why a belt is making all of this noise but they will have to take the engine apart which with permission is oveer $280 and then I need to replace the timing belt and any other parts. They said they cant diagnose the problem without doing all of this work. I still owe $10000 on this piece of junk!

Its OK - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By JY - March 15 - 2:00 amI bought this car because of the price. I personally prefer Japanses cars, but financial problems always happen to everyone, I believe. Compared to my old car, Nissan Sentra, its really not fun to drive. But it rides pretty smooth and pretty comfortable. BUT I would definitely go back to NISSAN!!! Just invest a couple of thousands more.

My Exquisite Sonata! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By Tanveer - December 8 - 10:00 amIve owned a Silver 2003 Sonata LX (with ABS/Trac, Moonroof) for about 4 months with not a single problem. So far the car is very dependable & with the 5-years/60K bumper-to-bumper warranty, Im not much worried either. The looks of Sonata with the extraordinary warranty were the key factors for me to buy this car. The exterior styling of Sonata is stunning. Sonatas styling is the hybrid of Mercedes C-class and Jaguar. I personally think that Sonata is the most appealing car in mid-size car category. Im getting around 20-22 mpg in mix driving condition, which I think is very reasonable.

Love, love, love it! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By pam - November 29 - 9:39 pmBought with 23,000 miles on it and in two years, have not had one single thing done to it except change the oil. Has started every single time - even in 20-below zero weather. Like the style -too bad they changed it for 2006 - now you cant tell the Sonata from any other car out there!

Great Little Sedan - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By portknoxxa - November 1 - 10:00 amive had my sonata gls for 1.5 years, and im totally impressed with the car.the list of standard features on the car are incredible.i wanted a larger car with a v-6,sunroof,etc.and of course a good warranty.i looked at the new altima and it would have been about $24,000, same for the accord and stratus. my sonata fully loaded w/o leather and abs stickered @$18,500 w/sunroof.the car has a very good ride at high speeds and minimal vibration, the v-6 to me is better than i thought it would be,passing power is great and acceleration is good.i highly reccomend this car to anyone.

Happy, happy, happy - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By Jim Nagourney - October 12 - 9:25 pmI previously owned a Lexus 400, and thought I was spoiled. In a move to economize, I bought the Sonata. Of course, it does not perform like a Lexus, but I have been nothing but happy. I have 50,000 miles on it and it ahs not cost me an extra penny beyond regular maintenance and replacement of consumables. The dealers treat me like a Lexus customer. I will never buy any other brand.

I Just Bought Another One - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By Ambassador - May 19 - 7:51 amI have driven this car the last 3 years and I just love it. It is quiet, has good handling and is comfortable. I make 500 mi trips regularly and this is the only car I can remember that allows me to drive 500 miles without giving me back problems.
