Overview & Reviews
After receiving significant upgrades last year, the Sonata receives only minor changes this year. Among these are a battery-saver feature (in the event that any of lights are left on); illuminated window switches; a 12-volt power point in the trunk; and electronic, rather than cable-operated, releases for the trunk lid and fuel door. Additionally, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup in previous years, so the Sonata's four-cylinder is now rated at 138 horsepower (down from 149) and its V6 is rated at 170 (down from 181), though the engines themselves are unchanged.
- Excellent warranty, stylish sheet metal, pleasant highway ride, lots of bang for your family-sedan buck.
- Noisy four-cylinder engine, some cheap interior bits.

Great choice! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By bigego3 - September 23 - 2:00 amI bought this car because it was affordable and great looking. It has more than lived up to expectations. Its great to drive, very reliable, and great looking! I may look at the XG350 for my next car to get a bigger version of the Sonata!

My Hyundai - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By Joseph Wyckoff - September 19 - 2:00 amPurchased this vehicle in June of 2003 after realizing that my 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan which had 260,000 miles was ready to be turned in. The all over design is inspired by Jaguar. The interior is quite spacious and well appointed for a car of this price. The price and warranty cant be beat, even if it is a Hyundai. I have been on several long trips from Jersey to Boston and back. Never felt any degree of discomfort in the drivers seat. After nearly three months the car has 9000 miles and sounds perfect, and runs perfect. Gas is 23/27. I am very impressed and happy with my purchase. Will probably keep buying Hyundais...

Worth-A-Look - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By FlaSun - September 18 - 2:00 amWe bought the 2003 Sonata LX w/ the "homelink" feature. The "homelink" is a very nice feature. It lets you open your garage door by pressing one of three button on the rear view mirror. It can operate three different doors as well. It comes with the automatic dimmer feature, so at night the mirror cuts down on the glare from the car behind you. Very impresed with the warranty. Probably the biggest selling point of the car. DEFINATELY go for the V-6 over the V-4.(standard the LX)

Lots of bang for my buck - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By luvin it - September 15 - 2:00 amMy hubby drives the Tiburon so I figured I give the Sonata a try. All I can say is, "wow." The body and the style makes the car look more expensive than it really is! I feel like Im in a true luxury car. People cant believe its a Hyundai.

Great Value - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By tonytrim - September 10 - 2:00 amI had my Sonata for only four weeks before I was rear ended in a 5 car accident. My airbags did not deploy and the chasis folded and buckled near the moonroof. I walked away with only serious wiplash and a scrape on the knee. The car did exactly what it was suppose to during the impact. I am curious though why the air bag did not deploy.

Tired of buying American Lemons - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By gramps - September 7 - 2:00 amSo far so good! Got rid of a lemon known as the Ford Windstar. Last 3 Fords I owned were junk. Loved the looks of the sonata. Just took it on its first 8 hr road trip. Great ride. 32.46 mpg even with the air on. 24 mpg in the city. Cant wait for next trip!

I love my Sonata! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By mmcauntie - September 6 - 2:00 amI was a faithful driver of Toyota Camrys, but when I saw the Hyundai, I had to drive it. I went to the dealership to prove to myself that the car wasnt as nice as it looked from the outside. As soon as I put the car in gear, I knew I would buy one. It drives like a dream (smoother ride than the 2003 Camry) and is fun too. My last Camry needed a lot of non- warranty repairs at 76,000 miles which is why I traded it in. The 100,000 mile warranty sold me on the car as well.

short term so far so gooood - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By bobby1234 - September 6 - 2:00 amam driving on highways the majority of time. very happy. i have 4 cylinder that does not lack power when air cond. is off. auto needs kick whem acceleration is required. car does have the necessary kick when need be. worth the investment based on the warantees and sell price. not so if you intend to sell because of poor depreciation.

2002 Sonata Base 4cyl-put to the test - 2003 Hyundai Sonata
By dc3256 - July 6 - 2:00 amAfter putting 40K on my 2002, Ive got to say it has handled everything very well. They say the 4cyl is loud and noisy, but I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary. Great all around. Dissapointed that I had to replace and pay for new Front Brakes at 30k. Bulb went out at 35k and they replaced that for free. no problems or hassles with that.
