  • Great used van - 2002 Honda Odyssey

We just bought a 2002 Odyssey with 125,000 miles. The van can carry seven in comfort. The rear seat is best for kids, because of the narrow access. The power sliding doors ease ingress and egress. It can be hard to hear what someone is saying in the 3rd row because of road noise. Tires may help. The Odyssey has very good acceleration, even in hilly San Diego. The van handles very well for a vehicle this size. I would call it a sport van if such a thing exists. These models are known for transmission problems. I installed a transmission filter and cooler, and made sure the shift solenoid screens were clear. We get around 23 on the highway and 18 around town. I recommend this van.

I had looked at the Siena, but this is by far the better choice.

Prior to purchasing my first Honda Odyssey in 2000, I was driving a Ford Crown Victoria c/w with air ride, leather and all the extras. If anyone had suggested to me that the Odyssey would travel down the highway at 70 mph and handle better than the Crown vic, I would have not have believed them. It does and also gets about the same gas mileage. Four of us went for an extended holiday to the East coast. The Van was perfect for carrying all our luggage plus a cooler and lunch basket. We were able to have our coats, sweaters and various food article right at our fingertips. The fold down rear seat was put up when we arrived at a friends place and the six of us were able to sight see together.

Great vehicle. First time Honda owner, and first time van owner. This was the right choice. Considered the others, but this van is safe, luxurious, and sporty. I enjoy driving it. And I am 6 feet 6 inches tall.

Have had the van for going on 2 years, drives great in all road conditions. Have had 3 other Chrysler vans, wanted something different, wouldnt go back. Gets 20 mpg around town, 24-25 on the highway depending on loads. Really enjoy the ability to flip over the 3rd row seat for space without taking out the seats. Great power, no reliability problems, have had all routine maintenance done at dealer.

This van is my parents new minivan. However, I did drive it several times on my visit to SC. The van is exquisite and the power delivery is fluid and powerful even with a load of people in it. We drove it on a 5 hour trip to FL and it got excellent gas mileage. I like the power sliding doors. They are rather neat. There is excellent room inside and the safety features are top notch. I had to do a LOT of convincing to buy this van other than a Town & Country Limited. He liked that van also, but we are a HONDA family and have been for decades. The ODYSSEY EX-L will continue our familys proud tradition of toting Honda as the best on the road.

  • When will the big 3 learn? - 2002 Honda Odyssey

As I turned in my 1999 Windstar to the Ford Dealership I started my lease at, I asked the General Manager "How do the engineers who designed the Windstar look themselves in the mirror every day, knowing that the Odyssey is on the road?" They asked me if I ever considered buying my Windstar off- lease, my answer was "have fun at the wholesale auction!" In truth, had I been able to get my hands on a 99 Odyssey, I never would have taken the Ford. Such is life. My EX-L is quiet, smooth and powerful. At 62/200, I have plenty of space in all but the rear seat, which is reserved for 2 kids anyway.

  • After 130k miles - 2002 Honda Odyssey

Purchased new 11/2001. At the tranny recall they said it was ok and put additive in the fluid. All maintenance has been done on time including the $1750 timing belt / spark plugs at 100k miles. The transmission has always been funky, sometimes slips to 1st and you have to stay off the gas and slow down to get it going again. While the tranny is junk, it still works and its the original one. No other problems whatsoever. F/R break pads replaced only once, tires replaced only once and are probably good for another 20k. I find that when the trans gets more finicky, if I run it hard (floor it 0 to 60mph+), it then works without major issue for another couple weeks.

  • automatic sliding door problem. - 2002 Honda Odyssey

I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey EX and drove about 18000 miles. Well, I have been to dealer four times already. Once was for the instrument panel lighting recall, and three times for the rear sliding door. THREE TIMES. My rear (both side) sliding door stop working once, and didnt close so it beeped like crazy. They have replaced both doors locking part, but I had exact same problem one more time. I also heard that this was design fault by Honda and they should extend my warranty on this door.
