This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has added a new trim level for 2002, the SE. The Accord SE is based on the LX four-cylinder coupe or sedan trim level with an automatic transmission. Features setting the SE apart from LX models include an upgraded audio system, a driver seat power height adjustment, interior wood grain trim, antilock brakes, remote keyless entry and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Pros:
  • Great build quality, spacious interior, peppy yet clean engines, comfortable seats, excellent resale value, reputation for bulletproof reliability.
Cons:
  • Everybody drives one, bland personality, stiff highway ride.

  • Some good, Some bad - 2002 Honda Accord

I picked up my Honda in 02, wanting a troublefree commuter car. At 26K, the transmission completely died on mine. This is apparently common. The dealerships say otherwise. The car is pretty solid, though and the gas mileage is 25-30. The interior fabric is in fact, junk. For what this car cost, I expected better. The electrical system has always been junk, with more bugs than a rain forest. Also, be forewarned that your insurance will be high for this car, as Hondas are theft magnets. Too much cabin noise, but great trunk space. Back seats a joke. 23K bought no luxury, but still wasnt cheap. Decide if you want to go upmarket or be and affordable hauler.

  • New Transmission at 8K - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I always thought the Honda Accord was a reliable vehicle until I purchased my Accord with a V-6. Transmission started clunking at around 4K and the dealership told me this was normal. At 8K the transmission failed and Honda replaced it. Now after 1K with the new transmission it is making a clunking sound again every time I back up! The dealership is telling me this is normal again! I am going to unload this lemon before I need another new transmission. Will never buy a Honda again!

  • WHAT HAPPENED HONDA? - 2002 Honda Accord

Being a loyal Honda buyer for several years and having a short experience with an unreliable European sedan I decided to come back to Honda. I bought a 2002 Accord with all the options including leather interior and spoiler. The car has been nothing more than a complete dissapointment. The fuel economy very dissapointing as well as the ride and comfort of this car. The car is noisy and the interior appears to be put together VERY cheaply with tons of squeeks and rattles to visit the dealership over. I owned 5 Hondas before my Volvo and they were high quality cars that were comfortable and drove well. Honda what are you doing to your cars?

  • Very Disappointed - 2002 Honda Accord

Ive owned Accords for 21 years. THIS WILL BE MY LAST ONE! Ive had the driver seat replaced 3 times. The cushion becomes crushed and leans to left. Honda refuses to fix it anymore. The drivers seat doesnt go back far enough, Im only 510". What happened to your quality? Now small things are going. For example, overhead light doesnt come on when door opens, headlight warning buzzer and key alarm doesnt work either. The gas peddle is too high above the floor; very dangerous. Overall driver comfort/room is awful i.e. too narrow & arm resting on door lock knob(why the design change? That was dumb.) Im already talking to the Camry salesman & will buy one.

  • Mostly good, but with some warts - 2002 Honda Accord

Honda always makes a great engine; no complaints there. The car is as solid as they come. The problem we had was with the interior construction. TONS of squeaking and rattling, especially in colder weather, even only a few weeks old. We had it back into the dealer more than 10 times in the first 6 months. They never could fix it.

  • I am so disappointed. - 2002 Honda Accord

I bought my Accord because it was supposed to be so wonderful. I bought it new and Ive had problems with the car since early on. The car now has 51,000. The brake rotors have been resurfaced twice. The door lock motors have all failed. The power window motors have all failed. The air conditioner compressor had to be replaced. The car has never shifted gears smoothly. It gets terrible gas mileage, especially when the air conditioner is on. I am lucky to average 22 mpg and that is driving under the speed limit. My "reliable" Honda has cost me a pile of money in repairs. So far, the engine has not failed, I guess that will be next. I wish I had bought something else.

Bought this car used a few years ago it ran fine for a little while, then I started having all kinds of problems from the ignition distributor, and now the transmission is slipping cant afford to put any more money into it as I have over $7000.00 into it now.My advice dont buy this year model

  • My Honda - 2002 Honda Accord

I think the honda looks good on the inside and out but I believe it is made very cheap. My car makes strange noises and my dealership tells me they cant fix it. I probably would not buy a honda again even though they are reliable.

  • not worth it - 2002 Honda Accord

Hondas are great cars and this one is too but lacks so much. If your going to purchase any accord buy the v6!!! its well worth the money

  • Transmission only lasted 25,000 - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

WOW! This is only car I ever had that only lasted 25,000 miles. The transmission went out at 25,000 miles, yes it was covered but that is just not right. Proble is that was not the only proble I had with this car. Good luck if you buy one.
