This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has added a new trim level for 2002, the SE. The Accord SE is based on the LX four-cylinder coupe or sedan trim level with an automatic transmission. Features setting the SE apart from LX models include an upgraded audio system, a driver seat power height adjustment, interior wood grain trim, antilock brakes, remote keyless entry and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Pros:
  • Great build quality, spacious interior, peppy yet clean engines, comfortable seats, excellent resale value, reputation for bulletproof reliability.
Cons:
  • Everybody drives one, bland personality, stiff highway ride.

  • Honda should be ashamed! - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I bought this car a few years ago. It had almost 50k miles on it. A year later I had to replace the transmission. A good thing that I had a warranty. About 9 months later, the check engine light came on. Autozone says its a transmission problem. Take it to Aamco and they dont know what the problem is. In the last 3 months I have smelled transmission fluid burning. Im not paying Honda a dime for a diagnostic. Im just gonna buy something else. The sad part is that Honda knows this is a problem with this model. For some stupid reason, the class action lawsuit didnt cover this year Honda. I will never buy another Honda!

  • I want to like this car, but... - 2002 Honda Accord

Purchased this car 4/14/02. In 3 weeks we heard a buzzing sound in the tranny. At the dealer, they opened the tranny and said they needed to replace a bearing. The part was ordered/installed and it was in the shop 4 days. 4 days and 100 miles later, the buzzing noise was back. Back at the dealer, I get word that Honda engineers in CA recommended replacing all the bearings in the transmission (10). The bearings were ordered and arrived in 4 days. Then, I was heard that 1 of the 10 bearings did not arrive. Its on back-order and would have to come from Japan and its still in the shop. My 11.5 year old Dodge is more reliable.

  • Please add some more metal!!!!!!!!!! - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

This is my 3rd Honda Accord and have had no major mechanical problems, but the sheet metal is so thin I feel like Im riding in a cola can. My Accord has so many dents and dings from rocks and such and some of the rock chips are starting to rust. This is ridiculous!! It is a year old and rust? My Pontiac is 3 years older has twice the rock chips and no rust. Also my Pontiac has no dings. I switch off driving both cars for the same commute. Earth to Honda --- USE BETTER SHEET METAL!!!!!!!! I will never buy a honda again -- the quality has continually degraded with each accord release!

  • Another defective transmission - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I like many others have a defective transmission with only 91,000 miles. Honda wont fix it. The transmission was slipping for many years but got worse the last 2 months. I went online and was surprised by all the other Accord owners with the same problem, which really surprised me about a Honda car. There were so many complaints that I was not sure why there is not a recall. I thought Honda had great quality, bad this did not happen in my case. By the way, the new transmission will cost me $35,000.

  • Transmission Broke at 90,000 - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I have the familiar problem of having a bad transmission. Dont believe the others on this website that say changing your transmission will help avoid this problem. Whoever says this works for Honda. I say this because that is actually what I did (regular transmission changes) and it did not help, I now need a transmission repair at 90,000 miles. Honda wont help. I will trade it in for another car. I will also trade in my Honda CRV because of the frustration with this issue.

  • I want to drive this off a cliff - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

Where do I begin. At 60k the transmission went out on me. At 80k I have a crack in my engine block so I had to replace it. I had replaced the 6 disc CD changer 3 times now. I hear so much about how reliable Hondas are but this car isnt proving it. I cant wait to get rid of it. This car has done nothing but cost me more and more money out of my pocket. The amount of money I had spent already I could have bought something else. I will never buy Honda again.

  • Bring your own transmission - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I bought my Accord new because they are supposed to be low maintenance cars that run forever. After warranty expiration, I learned that "forever" is slang for until your warranty expires. Even though my car is six years old, it only has 40,000 miles on it and Im replacing the transmission. Ive learned that this is a very common problem among hondas. It does have a flimsy front cup holder that wont stay latched and has a lot of road noise when driving at high speeds. With only four cylinders, its a little gutless when getting onto the freeway. All these things could be overlooked if I could just get the transmission to let drive it.

  • Will never own another Honda - 2002 Honda Accord

Ive grown up always hearing how Nice Hondas were how they ran forever as Long as u change the oil and do the maintenance. Finally I bought one because I was driving 100 Miles a day I needed a car I could afford and it would still hold its value. Well what a let down my Honda has been I bought it with 60,000 Miles on it w no warranty and 2 months after buying it the trans starting slipping. Now with 130,000 Miles on it and even if I replace the trans its only worth $4000 what a disappointment.

  • I expected better - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

When you first start the car after it has set a while it has loud engine noise,The dealership told me it is normal. Constantly adjust stering on highway. When windy you are all over the road. Seat springs made noise so they adjusted and lubed them now noise is back. Compartment door under radio broke, The idle jumps up and down sometimes, no bulletins and no codes The heater and air conditioner suddenly slow way down sometimes, The car turns over quite a bit before starting in cold weather, The fit and finish is nothing like they claim. The gas mileage is not that good. Now the brake pedal is starting to make a noise.

  • Reliable - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

At 110K and going strong. The car is reliable. I have replaced brakes - front (1) and rear (2), and tires. I have come to expect reliability in vehicles and have not been disappointed in any I have owned. This is no exception.
