Overview & Reviews
The new model year brings a handful of changes for the Mustang. V6 models can now get the Pony Package, which includes an upgraded suspension with larger stabilizer bars, 17-inch wheels, ABS, traction control, foglamps and unique trim. The GT gains two additional wheel options, both 18 inches in size, complemented by unique suspension tuning. An additional darker aluminum interior trim upgrade package is now available.
- Solid V8 power in GT models, about as well mannered as a car with a solid-axle rear suspension can get, slick retro interior, good cabin ergonomics.
- No side curtain airbags or stability control, seats could use more lateral support, low-grade interior plastics.

Bought it new, falling apart - 2006 Ford Mustang
By Brenda - January 14 - 12:10 pmThe 2006 Mustang v6 Coupe is my 7th Mustang, I bought it new off the lot, and its left me stranded all over town--thank God I have roadside assistance! After two years of ownership a dead battery left me stranded out at work at midnight, in March Ill have had the car 3 years and I just had to put a new transmission in it at 68,000 miles. The Ford dealer said that since I hadnt had the transmission serviced at 30,000 mile intervals like the manual says I need to, they cant help. Ive not had the oil changed exactly every 3,000 miles, does this mean the engine is going to blow? Very poor quality.

DONT BUY A MUSTANG! - 2006 Ford Mustang
By stnghot - October 19 - 12:41 amI made the mistake of buying one of these 2006 lemons. It is sitting in the shop w 46000 miles on it..the bill? $3000. Entire rear diff has to be replaced including the axles are shot. Theres a service bulletin so get yours checked! Ford offered to pay 750..I drive it like a baby and a rear diff should not go out that early. Research and you will find Im not the only one. Im not fixing this lemon. Its going to its grave and Im buying a foreign car. Called Ford..they said thanks for calling...they dont stand behind their cars so why would I put myself in one? Perfect personalized plate would be FORDLMN if I was gonna keep it. Save yourself the hassle and heartache....dont buy one.

Nothing but problems - 2006 Ford Mustang
By Disgusted - March 29 - 4:40 amBought an 06 GT and it ended up in the shop more than on the road. Auto trans had to be pulled at 1k miles, then the valvetrain started clattering at 2500 miles, check engine light, gas smell in car, no power, Ford dealer could not fix it and Ford corporate would not help me. Ford is not standing behind warranty. Horrible quality, will never buy Ford again.

Ford Wont Fix My Mustang - 2006 Ford Mustang
By Another Lemon Driver - March 26 - 12:18 pmI believe it is NOT normal. There is a surge in the RPMs in neutralÂ…up to 2500 at times. This problem is intermittent. According to the engineer, this is the way the car is supposed to drive if the car is not downshifted, and also that it could be that I am not pushing the clutch in all the way. I have had this problem occur even in the absence of these supposed precipitating factors. I have had my Mustang in for service numerous times over the past year. The problem started a month after I bought the car. If it is normal, why didnt it do it when I first bought the car?

Horrible quality, Ford refused to fix it - 2006 Ford Mustang
By Fordisdead - March 23 - 9:06 amBought a new 06 GT leftover, after only one month and 1k miles the auto transmission started leaking, took it back for repair. A month later the car starts using lots of gas, running rough, no power, gas smell in car, and check engine light comes on. Take it back, dealer says 3 spark plugs are burned up, they give it back "fixed." Leaving the dealership same problems, take it back, they "reflash" the computer, say its fixed. Leave dealer, same problem, now the valves are clattering, take it back, they say "well have to talk to Ford and let you know." I call Ford, they say "well have to talk to the dealer and let you know." The dealer then says the valve racket is "normal" as is the gas smell.

3000 MILES / 3 NEW TOPS - 2006 Ford Mustang
By mjbeamer - September 4 - 9:13 pmMy top was torn on delivery; it is having its 3rd new top installed (the installer messed up). Most of the miles to date are going back and forth to the dealer. The interior styling is kind of stone-age, but it looks nice from the outside. Gas mileage isnt as good as I hoped. (21-22 mpg) Suggestion: Wait for the Camaro.

Get an import - 2006 Ford Mustang
By never_again - August 7 - 6:03 amI bought this brand spanking new 06 Mustang GT Premium this past March. Initially, I was impressed with the power and acceleration of the 4.6L V8; however, there was much to be desired from the transmission as shifting became tedious and clunky, with a stiff clutch, in this 5-speed manual. Shifting was anything but smooth as you had to literally force the shifter into each gear with overwhelming effort. This became a nightmare in traffic and city driving. Do yourself a favor, if you want a true quick and nimble sports car with butter-smooth shifting, get yourself an import.
