This Year's Model Updates:

With an all-new model scheduled for '05, there are few changes for the 2004 Ford Mustang. All models wear commemorative 40th anniversary exterior badging, while V6 and GT models can be ordered with a full 40th anniversary package that includes additional exterior and interior enhancements.

Pros:
  • Available V8 power, variety of trim levels, healthy dose of American attitude.
Cons:
  • Archaic underpinnings, cheap interior materials, choppy ride.

wonderful looks, and great engine but, horrible shifting(too hard on the clutch) and doesnt shift smooth. Ford should reconsider putting in an import cars transmission.

  • 6 cylinder dog - terrible disappointment - 2004 Ford Mustang

Terrible disappointment. I just test drove a new 2004 6 cylinder. I am shopping for a 180+ hp, rear wheel drive, american made car with good gas mileage. I thought the 6cyl stang would foot the bill, but came it up terribly short. The car is so heavy that the cheesy 6 cylinder motor cant seem to get out of its own way. I recall my 1993, 140hp, 6 cylinder beretta having much better acceleration. I wonder if the 5 speed performs any better. The interrior would be great if this were 1989!

  • Flashy, but cheap ! - 2004 Ford Mustang

Its flashy, & affordable, but lower quality than most. The technology should improve with the new 2005. I feel the car is underpowered & wish I would have waited & bought a Cobra. I am regularly beat by import cars 0-60 with even 6 cyl motors ??? BMWs etc..

  • V-6 = Noise, Vibration, no fun at all - 2004 Ford Mustang

We purchased the car for the low price, standard features and fuel economy. On the plus side, fuel economy is good and is near the rated numbers. The engine is anything but smooth, and does not like to be revved above 2,500 RPM without a lot of coaxing. Clutch throw is nearly a foot, transmission is clunky; it is NOT fun to shift especially around town. The computer keeps the engine between 2,000-3,000 between shifts which sounds and feels totally awkward. The car developed several creeks and clunks right away. Not impressed at all; I wished we would have bought another Honda instead!

  • Not What I Thought! - 2004 Ford Mustang

I recently purchased a Mach 1. I have owned 3 other Mustangs in the past. I think the new style of the Mach 1 is outstanding. Theres more power then the standard GT. But it is after all a Ford. Ford doesnt have the best reputation. I bought my Mach 1 brand new. It now has 12,000 miles on it. At 10,000 miles the Transmission went out. I took it to the dealer who had to replace the transmission. So i think the Mach 1 is very nice but like i said, Its still a ford...

  • Fun car for the price but..... - 2004 Ford Mustang

Dont get me wrong, this car is fast fun, and a performer, but ive had some problems with it. Firstly it has been in the shop about 5 times already, once with a computer malufunction in the transmission, another for new struts, thirdly for another computer malfunction continually stating to service, fourthly for a faulty alternator and lastly was a power windows malfunction. The car is fast but for only a little bit more other sport cars become available that seem to have the stang beat.

FOR THE MONEY, WITH A STANDARD V6 YOUR JUST PAYING FOR THE NAME. ZERO STANDARD OPTIONS. FOR GODS SAKE, YOU DONT EVEN GET FLOOR MATS, CARGO NET TO KEEP EVERYTHING FROM MOVING ABOUT IN TRUNK. CRUISE CONTROL AND AN ASHTRAY ARE EVEN CONSIDERED OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT TOO. MANUAL TRANSMISSION ALREADY SOUNDS FUNKY WITH ONLY 1800 MILES ON IT. SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE DELUXE MODEL, OR BETTER YET, WISH I HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE 2005 MODEL. I WOULD HAVE WAITED TILL THEN TO PURCHASE.

It is a lot of drive a convertible specially living in southern California. Overall performance is average, noisier than expected, heavier on gas than the manufacturer claims. Clean interior design though with lower quality materials. Hand break plastic cover is already thorn after 4 weeks. If you like convertible as a fun to drive second car and dont want to spend an arm and leg for this is a good alternative, but as a first car I would pause, think carefully before making the commitment.

  • Never buying a ford again - 2004 Ford Mustang

It is a fun car till you have owned it for 4 years. Even with continious maintenance I still have problems. Check engine light, shifting into 5th gear is a grinding experience and shakes when in the idle position. The top also leaks when washed or it rains.
