This Year's Model Updates:

With an all-new model scheduled for '05, there are few changes for the 2004 Ford Mustang. All models wear commemorative 40th anniversary exterior badging, while V6 and GT models can be ordered with a full 40th anniversary package that includes additional exterior and interior enhancements.

Pros:
  • Available V8 power, variety of trim levels, healthy dose of American attitude.
Cons:
  • Archaic underpinnings, cheap interior materials, choppy ride.

  • Oily Problem - 2004 Ford Mustang
    By -

Frustrated owner of a new 2004 with only 1400 miles. The first 300 the car started leaking oil. They supposely fixed this then went on a road trip around 350 miles oil leaked again. Found out that there are 181 cars out there that have this problem. Ford will not take back the car which I want them to do. Dealer is ok, but certain higher ups were rude to me...WATCH OUT....

Probably the poorest engineered and poorest quality vehicle Ive ever owned, its my 10th vehicle. Ive had nothing but problems since I bought the car, I actually got it in July 2002. Im glad the dealer decided to sneak a premium extended warranty in on the contract, I have a feeling a lot more will go wrong after the initial 36,000 miles.

  • Wish I Knew This Before I bought it - 2004 Ford Mustang

Ford seems to make good Trucks but I dont think they try too hard on their cars. I drove a 95 thunderbird and its faster than my Mustang. They have the same engine and horse power both automatics too. I thought mustangs were suppose to be faster. Next time Im going to buy a trans am like i wanted to in the first place.

I have had problems since the day I got this car. All electrical, right now the car in is the shop b/c all the lights came on on the dash for no reason and my fuel gage went to from a full tank to empty and gas gage came on with all the others. To begin with the radio some how made the car not crank. The ford place were rude to me, have been since I bought the car and I will never buy a ford again in my life. Oh and I wasnt given a spare key with my car which was a demo, thus roadside assistance scratched my newly tinted windows They are beautiful cars but horribly made, they drink gas, buy something else besides a ford!

Interior quality/ergonomics somewhat lacking. Exterior workmanship is poor. body panels shake easily and start coming loose. Still needs work on IRS reliability and strength. suspension and drivetrain very clunky.

  • Poor Gas Milage - 2004 Ford Mustang

Engine continually surges, although window sticker rated this vehicle at 23 MPG, Ihave never been able to get over 14MPG. This is after 4 trips back to the dealership. In addition, acceleration is far below what it should be for an engine that is rated at 200 HP.

  • My Week in a Droptop Stang - 2004 Ford Mustang
    By -

Rented a V6 stang convertible when I was in Dallas. The weather was great so having a drop top was nice, but I could not own or live with this car permenantly. The roots of this car go back to the fox platform which debuted in 79 and it shows in the build quality and ergonomics.

This vehicle is under powered for the true Mustang enthusiast. Ford needs more options for its engine power and power train (gear ratio). It would help to have a 430-475hp option. Make a true muscle car, not something everybody buy to look stylish to go to the grocery store.
