This Year's Model Updates:

The F-150 is fully redesigned for 2004. It's bigger, more powerful and offers a greater variety of features and body styles than ever before.

Pros:
  • Exceptional ride and handling characteristics, attractive and functional interior designs, multiple cab and bed configurations, most payload and towing capacity in the half-ton class.
Cons:
  • Feels sluggish even with larger V8, no available side airbags, not much interior storage space.

I love this truck. It has good power and it is a very smooth and quiet cab. While the fuel effeciency is poor at best, the truck is awesome.

So far, so great! I enjoy this vehicle as a great addition to our family - the road trip & beach/mountains/biking/skiing machine. The road comfort & quiet ride is exceptional for a truck and rivals my wifes 03 ML350. The room inside and comfort make it great for our needs. Ford definitely knows how to build trucks. I would like to see a bit better acceleration off of the line, but I have to keep reminding myself that its the truck, not my 740i!

  • First Year Woes - 2004 Ford F-150

I just traded in my 04 F-150. Overall it was a great truck -- plenty of power, tons of room. But I encountered two issues that came with the first year of the new design -- tires wore excessively and rear parking brake stuck and caused a vibration. The dealer replaced the tires the first time but refused the second time. The dealer initially refused to fix the brake -- and then Ford "shared" the expense with me after I repeatedly complained (the dealer did not share in the cost). Overall, it was a good owning experience. Very big to park in shopping centers and poor gas mileage, but I knew that going in. Pulled our camper and hauled lots of stuff, in a comfortable and fun package.

Ive just turned 1,500 miles and so far the ownership experience has been great. Ive owned many Fords in the past; the new F150 is a real improvement. Kudos to Ford. If they can put this little "porker" on a diet, they will have a real hit on their hands. The car is built solid, with no interior rattles.

I traded in my relialbe 1998 Ford F150 for a 2004 SuperCrew Lariat and I love the new truck. The interior of the Lariat is head and shoulders above the competition. I looked at Nissan and Chevy trucks, but they just didnt compare favorably with the new Ford. I get about 1 to 2 MPG better than my 1998 F150 and have had no problems to date.

Not a bad vehicle, just a bit pricey. The ride is very smooth, which is expected for such a heavy truck. The interior is comfy, and back seats have lots of leg room. I seem to be able to fit in the available storage spaces everything that I was carrying in my previous vehicle, an Explorer SportTrac.

I have had a few problems with the truck. They were resolved by the dealer which is great. At 28000 miles the rear end was chattering, turned out the clutches were bad they fixed it under warranty. Two times now the air bag light was on and the sensor was replaced. The seat sensor for the air bag (passenger side) was bad and repaired. Other than that the truck is good.

  • Make sure its what you want - 2004 Ford F-150

Ive owned several pickup trucks from different manufacturers. Make sure you buy one that you need. The F-150 has the best frame in the business. But what good is that if the drivetrain self-destructs? Youre left with a large paper weight in your driveway. For me, the Tundra would have been a better choice. Even with its less developed frame, it is much more reliable. But you cant get $11,000 off msrp on a Toyota.

My wife drives daily and says its a smooth ride but thirsty. MPG at 14- 15 in town, but +20 hiway. Likes to run at about 80 mph..gets better as it climbs. Good detail, a bit springy ride, inside spacious. Handles very well. Dont lose the key ... big $$$ to replace.

  • Ford - Not your best effort for a 4X4 - 2004 Ford F-150

I recently upgraded my 2001 SC 4X4 F150 to the FX4 SC 2004. The ride is great on the road. Off road is a different story. For off roading the ground clearance stinks. My wifes Toyota Highlander can make it through ruts without bottoming out like the new FX4. The new SC is more an SUV then a real off road 4 wheel drive. Ford should be ashamed. Lift the truck by 4 inches minimum.
