This Year's Model Updates:

Arriving in 2003 for the XLT supercab styleside configuration is the Heritage Edition, which includes 17-inch wheels, a chrome cab step and various stylistic flairs such as a black bedliner, a lower valance, paint striping and a paint scheme with a raised cut-line. Also new is an STX edition for the XL- and XLT-trimmed regular and supercabs that includes an MP3 player combined with a monochromatic color scheme and clear lights, among others. Upgrades for the fancy King Ranch flavor consist of fake wood for the interior, lighted step bars and an in-dash six-disc CD changer. For the Lariat, expect a standard rear window defroster and a Pioneer CD and cassette system (the latter is also newly available on the XL and XLT). Harley-Davidson models have the option of getting a two-tone black-and-silver paint. Finally, a new LATCH system helps you tie down the kiddie seats properly.

Pros:
  • Wide range of configurations and features, capable powertrains and suspension, attractive styling inside and out.
Cons:
  • Poor IIHS crash test result, everybody and his brother has one.

  • New F-150, problems already - 2003 Ford F-150

The truck was great for the first 650 miles with no problems. I am not too happy about the body design and the fact that it is a Ford, since I have had problems with Fords in the past. At 720 miles the oil pressure switch broke and was replaced by the dealer at no charge.... hopefully this is the first and last thing to break for a while.

  • Great Truck, Tons of Room - 2003 Ford F-150

After having a 1994 Ranger STX, Im hooked on having a pickup, but needed something I could fit the expanding family in. The Super Crew fit the bill perfectly. Im 66" and this a very comfortable for me. Its great for the snow here in New England, and is easy to drive considering how big it is. The 5.4L has more than enough power to get this truck around. We have had it for 2 years with no problems, and the gas mileage is better than expected, as its no worse than my Ranger which had the 4.0L V6

  • Nearly Perfect Sport Truck - 2003 Ford F-150

This truck can best be described as Fords rendition of a Corvette with a pickup bed. Eyeball-flattening acceleration, sports car handling, and the ability to carry a half ton of stuff in the back. My only two complaints are the lack of a manual transmission (although it does have the best automatic Ive experienced) and the gas mileage: 14 MPG on the mandatory premium fuel. Ouch! But thats the price you pay for this much fun and utility in one good-looking package.

  • Still the King! Wake yours up! - 2003 Ford F-150

This is my 2nd Lightning, my first was a 2000 model. Dont leave it stock for another day! As soon as you put a cold air intake and chip it, maybe change the exhaust, you realize how restricted they come from Ford. You gain at least a 1-2 second increase in the 1/4 mile, and since Ford sells those same mods, it wont even void your warranty. They are quiet, comfortable, handle well, and still tow 5k lbs! You can outrun the $50k Dodge truck for about $2000-$2500 in mods, and still be $20k ahead. And the SRT- 10 cant even be used as a truck! My first one went over 40k with NO mechanical problems - the huge Dodges, like Vipers, have many. When you feel that 550+ lb/ft of torque you know who rules.

  • Very Nice Truck - 2003 Ford F-150

This truck is by far the most reliable of them yet. Maybe after a few years then new F-150s will bypass the milestone Ford has set for the reliability of its F-150 models.

I needed a vehicle that could haul 5 adult passengers, a reasonable sized payload, do well on snowy and icy roads (Montana), and do well on eroded, rocky, unmaintained forest service road. I think I bought the perfect vehicle. It is truly fun vehicle to drive and rides extremely well. I am tired after a 12 hour drive, but not exhausted. It get reasonably good gas mileage (not great) for big truck. Thus far it has been extremely reliable. I love my truck and look for reason to drive it.

  • Great Trucks / Built Great - 2003 Ford F-150

I have owned nothing but Land cruisers and Mercedes and this is the first pickup I have ever owned. I bought this FX4 for my business which required a 4x4 pickup and at first I was a bit nervous about buying an American vehicle due to all my friends having problems with theirs, but I have got to say that I LOVE THIS TRUCK! I sold my new E Class Mercedes and now I drive this truck everywhere and the 4x4 is awesome!. Ford really does make great trucks....I LOVE THIS TRUCK! PS: Great on the gas for being a truck and I think it is awesome how Fords manual transmission requires only regular gasoline. I think I am going to go and buy a ranch now. Thanks Ford!

  • Best Value Truck / SUV - 2003 Ford F-150

Just picked up my 03 F150 SCrew. Overall very pleased with fit & finish. I consider this to be the best overall value truck/SUV on the market. Seating for six and great interior. Really like the sporty look and comfortable ride ! Just couldnt talk myself into a van. Would like to have waited for the new 04, but once I read theyre going to lifetime transmission fluid I knew the 03 was for me.

  • Typical Ford Truck - 2003 Ford F-150
    By -

I rated the mileage at a 7, but honestly it is on par for the type vehicle it is. But it is costly for just running around town. It has been on several long trips with 4 and luggage and actually performs well on the road. Super low end torque for trailer towing. Rides smoother than most cars and handles pretty good as well.
