This Year's Model Updates:

Arriving in 2003 for the XLT supercab styleside configuration is the Heritage Edition, which includes 17-inch wheels, a chrome cab step and various stylistic flairs such as a black bedliner, a lower valance, paint striping and a paint scheme with a raised cut-line. Also new is an STX edition for the XL- and XLT-trimmed regular and supercabs that includes an MP3 player combined with a monochromatic color scheme and clear lights, among others. Upgrades for the fancy King Ranch flavor consist of fake wood for the interior, lighted step bars and an in-dash six-disc CD changer. For the Lariat, expect a standard rear window defroster and a Pioneer CD and cassette system (the latter is also newly available on the XL and XLT). Harley-Davidson models have the option of getting a two-tone black-and-silver paint. Finally, a new LATCH system helps you tie down the kiddie seats properly.

Pros:
  • Wide range of configurations and features, capable powertrains and suspension, attractive styling inside and out.
Cons:
  • Poor IIHS crash test result, everybody and his brother has one.

  • New F-150, problems already - 2003 Ford F-150

The truck was great for the first 650 miles with no problems. I am not too happy about the body design and the fact that it is a Ford, since I have had problems with Fords in the past. At 720 miles the oil pressure switch broke and was replaced by the dealer at no charge.... hopefully this is the first and last thing to break for a while.

  • Not what I expected - 2003 Ford F-150

I had the truck back to the dealer 5 times for the rear and transmission making noise. They could never duplicate it the last time I took the mechanic out and we had to get towed back. They finally fixed it but I should have gone with a Tundra.

  • 7700 package 5.4liter 4x4 - 2003 Ford F-150
    By -

Seats uncomfortable on long hauls. Front of bucket seat too high for me. Click on acceleration, maybe u-joints. 4WD floor shift works, but sometimes have to drive a fair distance to engage once it wouldnt till put into 4low, then clunked into 4x4. CD/radio went completely dead for 2 hour highway drive then came back on and hasnt done it since. Surprisingly smooth ride considering heavy duty package.

  • bad ride - 2003 Ford F-150

This truck looks good but on the concrete freeways it has a real bad washboard ride the whole way. I asked the dealer if there was anything I could do to improve the ride and they said not to their knowledge. So now I will buy a GMC.

  • Good and Bad - 2003 Ford F-150
    By -

I had a 97 f-150 4.6 ran great but traded it in for a 03 f-150 5.4 because the 97 had 210,000 miles. The 97 never had major problems. The 03 I have pretty much sucks. Motor knocks on a cold start, tranny shifts funny, and the rear diff "grabs" when making a sharpe turn. Needless to say the 03 is for sale.

  • F-150 Comparison to a Chevy TrailBlazer - 2003 Ford F-150
    By -

Previously I owned a 2002 Chevy TrailBlazer SLT. I found towing my 16ft. aluminum boat on a steep grade to be rather poor with the (15.8 MPG Hwy) 5.4 ltr V8. Chevys 4.2 inline 6 cylinder would have dragged this boat to the top while accelerating. I also found the Lariat package of my F- 150 to be rather lack luster. No heated seats nor the simplisity of a pocket on the back of the front seats. Theres no storage room! For the price of this vehicle and the top-of-the-line Lariat package, it should have been much more.

  • XChev, Mistake or Not? - 2003 Ford F-150
    By -

I have had Chevys since 1967 used to be a Ford man. Chevy wouldnt give me a good trade in so I went to Ford. I like my new truck but have found somethings wrong. Work men ship is a little bad. Seat belt put installed backward, Pedal adjustment missing, Read door out of adjustment, gap on dash board on drivers side and no tinted windshield. . All in all I like the truck, just have to get used to driving a Ford.
