Overview & Reviews
Additional standard equipment makes the 2002 Ford Escape an even better value. XLS models get a dual-media cassette/CD stereo, while XLT adds a V6 engine, privacy glass, power driver seat and an in-dash six-CD changer. New Sport packages also debut. The XLS Sport includes 15-inch alloy wheels with larger tires, side-step bars, Sport-embroidered floor mats and dark tinted privacy glass. The XLT Sport, new for 2002, provides, in addition to XLS Sport equipment, a special No Boundaries roof rack system and unique 16-inch alloy wheels with meatier rubber. Four new colors are also available.
- Strong V6 engine, comfortable cabin, plenty of cargo space, car-like road manners.
- Lacks the off-road capability of a truck-based SUV, barely adequate base engine, shoddy build quality, unimpressive interior materials.

Love the Power - 2002 Ford Escape
By MoniSi - August 31 - 10:00 amI reviewed and test drove several mini- utes before making my decision. Standard equipment coupled with pricing made the Ford Escape an excellent choice for me. It is comfortably equipment with enough engine power as well as interior power features.

Great car overall! - 2002 Ford Escape
By weezielynn - August 8 - 6:01 pmI have owned my Escape since May 2002 and overall it has been a wonderful car for me. It is very fun to drive and really moves quick and easy. The only big problem I had was when the transmission went out at under 10,000 miles. Major upset for me! It was fixed under warranty but for a long time I was still pretty annoyed. Based on some of the other comments apparently this is a problem with the Escape. Otherwise I am very happy with my SUV.

Midnight Edition - 2002 Ford Escape
By GoBlue - May 19 - 2:00 amI love this vehicle. Its fun to drive and its great looking. Ford, though, really skimped on some features, especially interior lighting. For example, there is no light for the ignition keyhole and many of the operating controls are painted on in white with no backlighting for dark roads. A compass and outside temp gauage would have been nice as well as a little less plastic inside.

Nice car - 2002 Ford Escape
By Rick - March 26 - 7:28 amBought the car without doing much research. It is fun to drive, has great acceleration, and is very good in snow. Has lots of storage, and is very comfortable for long drives. The ride is much better than the Explorer I owned prior to buying this car. I have had absolutely zero problems with the car.

MY FAVORITE SUV - 2002 Ford Escape
By CAROLYN - February 14 - 4:36 pmI love to drive my new (used) Escape. It is sporty, sexy & fast! It fits into tight spots yet plenty of room for my 64" hubby. I went from a Lexus to my Escape and I just think it was the best choice for us since we spend 1/2 our year in the mountain snow and the other in the city. I chose this over a Lexus LX470 after reading many reports online, I chose to buy this and very happy I did.

Not when its broken - 2002 Ford Escape
By hanges - January 27 - 6:35 amThis was the best performing vehicle that I have EVER owned too bad it had to go into the shop for work over 12 times in one year (20,000 miles). Rotors, fuel lines, EGR valve, fuel tank gaskets, etc. I did get 30 mpg with it and with it fully loaded (floor to ceiling with slip 40/60 seats) set the cruise at 72 and never have it drop below 70, even then going through the Rocky Mountains.

Pretty happy so far - 2002 Ford Escape
By F. Mario - September 18 - 10:00 amIve had the car 7 months. It looks great and people always check it out. Escape is fun to drive and peppy. Lots of room for passengers. The 4WD is great in the snow, useful for Buffalo. Have not found gas mileage to be as advertised though.
