Additional standard equipment makes the 2002 Ford Escape an even better value. XLS models get a dual-media cassette/CD stereo, while XLT adds a V6 engine, privacy glass, power driver seat and an in-dash six-CD changer. New Sport packages also debut. The XLS Sport includes 15-inch alloy wheels with larger tires, side-step bars, Sport-embroidered floor mats and dark tinted privacy glass. The XLT Sport, new for 2002, provides, in addition to XLS Sport equipment, a special No Boundaries roof rack system and unique 16-inch alloy wheels with meatier rubber. Four new colors are also available.

• Strong V6 engine, comfortable cabin, plenty of cargo space, car-like road manners.

• Lacks the off-road capability of a truck-based SUV, barely adequate base engine, shoddy build quality, unimpressive interior materials.

  This has been a relative trouble-free vehicle to own/maintain and drive. Very minor adjustments needed. Handled by dealer painlessly. Would recommend this vehicle to anyone interested in this size SUV

  Our 2002 Ford Escape Midnight Appearance Package is just awesome! The V-6 is already strong, but we added a Borla exhaust, Superchip, and Air Intake to make this thing really move! The black leather seats are real nice, but they could be more comfortable. All in all my wife and I love this thing as Ford did not cut any corners in putting this together!

  had a few kinks when new. power mirror(drivers side) window squeeked after half year and rear window wiper needed more tention to wipe. dealer fixed all promptly.

  This vehicle lives up to every promise Ford makes. The handling is excellant, power is more than sufficient, options are wonderful. Never had a problem with it. the construction is very solid, as when a gentleman opened up his VERY large oldsmobile door on the right side of the vehicle, my passengers and I did not even feel a bump. I went all out with the options and extras, and am very glad I did. It is a very fun truck to drive, but doesnt feel at all like you are driving a truck...handles just like a car.

  I decided to purchase the 6 cylinder 2002 ford escape after one trial ride. It is comfortable, has quick aceleration, a smooth ride, and handled very well in a couple of scary situations. I like my vehicles to have all the accessories.The price I paid ffor this vehicle would have cost me hungreds of dollars more in the Honda crv and the Rav4, the only other suvs I was interested in.

  This car is more than what you are bargaining for - the price is right. You will not be disappointed in this car (rated best SUV for 2002). Its fun and yields about 300 mi per tank in the city. Very reliable and fun. Easy to drive due to its midsize shape. Its outer design is modern, simple and sporty. The car for those young professionals that want to make a good investment ....

  I have had this car for almost a year and a half. I have had it in the shop for probably 20-30 days for all sorts of problems. It cut off on me while I was driving down the road .. a problem that has been experienced by at least two others I know with their own Escapes. My 6-CD changer had to be replaced. The runners/steps had to be replaced b/c the vibrate so loud it disrupts the ride .. altho the new ones still vibrate .. obviously a defect in construction. Not sure why, but I had to have my brake oil reservoir repaired due to leakage. Those are the things I can think of off the top of my head!
