Overview & Reviews
Additional standard equipment makes the 2002 Ford Escape an even better value. XLS models get a dual-media cassette/CD stereo, while XLT adds a V6 engine, privacy glass, power driver seat and an in-dash six-CD changer. New Sport packages also debut. The XLS Sport includes 15-inch alloy wheels with larger tires, side-step bars, Sport-embroidered floor mats and dark tinted privacy glass. The XLT Sport, new for 2002, provides, in addition to XLS Sport equipment, a special No Boundaries roof rack system and unique 16-inch alloy wheels with meatier rubber. Four new colors are also available.
- Strong V6 engine, comfortable cabin, plenty of cargo space, car-like road manners.
- Lacks the off-road capability of a truck-based SUV, barely adequate base engine, shoddy build quality, unimpressive interior materials.

Escape - 2002 Ford Escape
By Pito Perez - March 21 - 2:00 amthis car could be a lot better, and it could be sold for a lot less, and it could hold its values better. Ive only owned it for 1.5 years and its already lost 47% of its original purchase price!!!

Waste of Money - 2002 Ford Escape
By poorchoice - March 14 - 2:00 amVery disappointed. At 40K, I needed new front brakes?!? the windows screech like nails on a chalkboard when in cold weather. I had to have the moonroof fixed.

Good deal for the $ - 2002 Ford Escape
By Donald E. Potter - March 9 - 2:00 amI have found this SUV to be all you could want or expect for the size and money. Handles great, good power, comfortable, clean profile. Very good A/c and heat, CD player and radio ( sound sys leaves something to be desired with windows down). Not a luxery SUV, but has all you need and more. CONs: cheap tires (Generals, which I had found to be good prior to this?. As stated, for the money, a very fine SUV.

2002 Escape - 2002 Ford Escape
By Stick shift fanatic - February 23 - 10:00 amI love the 5 speed stick shift . It was great getting this with 4WD. Handles great in bad weather. Seating is comfortable especially with teenagers in the back seat. It is fun driving my sporty bright red Escape.

Loads of fun - 2002 Ford Escape
By atldfan - January 18 - 2:03 pmHaving owned a Mustang GT and a Taurus, I find the Escape a great combination of both. A sporty drive and room for people and stuff. It corners impeccably, yet the handling is forgiving. I have a 70 mile commute each day, and take road trips into the mountains. The Escape is at home on the highway and back roads, as long as they are paved. Since many of the parts are shared with a Taurus, I have had some of the same HV/AC problems with the Escape.

Good Compact SUV! - 2002 Ford Escape
By Scott80207 - January 9 - 2:00 amThis was my first truely "American" purchase (my previous car was a 00 Honda CRV), and other than a warranty- covered fuel sensor issue which caused the truck to stall at 40 mph, it has been a reliable, well-crafted, compact SUV. It has more than enough power and its fairly comfortable for my 64" frame. The 16-17 city-MPG took a little getting used to, but the 05 Hybrid is right around the corner!

Tale For The Tall People - 2002 Ford Escape
By BumperCar - December 30 - 2:00 amCan you say Headroom?!?! Being on the tall side the headroom is a key feature and the Escape has it..I had to go without the moon roof..I love the Escape XLT V6 being a first time SUV owner. I cant wait for the hybrid..It would be great to get 40 miles per gallon instead of 18-20..
