Overview & Reviews
Additional standard equipment makes the 2002 Ford Escape an even better value. XLS models get a dual-media cassette/CD stereo, while XLT adds a V6 engine, privacy glass, power driver seat and an in-dash six-CD changer. New Sport packages also debut. The XLS Sport includes 15-inch alloy wheels with larger tires, side-step bars, Sport-embroidered floor mats and dark tinted privacy glass. The XLT Sport, new for 2002, provides, in addition to XLS Sport equipment, a special No Boundaries roof rack system and unique 16-inch alloy wheels with meatier rubber. Four new colors are also available.
- Strong V6 engine, comfortable cabin, plenty of cargo space, car-like road manners.
- Lacks the off-road capability of a truck-based SUV, barely adequate base engine, shoddy build quality, unimpressive interior materials.

2002 Ford Escape Overview - 2002 Ford Escape
By M.A.F. - December 23 - 2:00 amI REALLY AM FOND OF MY ESCAPE, HOWEVER, THE GAS MILAGE HAS BEEN A DISAPOINTMENT.THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE TRUCK IS GETING THE ADVERTISED GAS MILAGE.I AM ALSO SOMEWHAT DISAPOINTED IN THE PAINT FINISH. THE FINISH SEEMS TO SCRATCH QUITE EASILY.

Sweet Sorrow - 2002 Ford Escape
By rjc - December 8 - 2:00 amMaybe isolated. I traded in my Escape before the 3 year/36000 mile warranty. Had multiple electronic issues. Dash lights would go out, stereo lights, brake lights. They were fairly minor but I wasnt about to keep after warranty expired.Would Still have car otherwise. Its fun to drive, milege wasnt too bad

Fun and Capable - 2002 Ford Escape
By JaxMax - November 3 - 2:00 amI really like my Escape. It moves well, handles well and is comfortable for my 61" frame. Visability is excellent and parks nimbly. At 31,000 miles my only problems have been a faulty CD player and some weird electical problems when it rains hard. I am concerned about reliability over time, especially the electronics. Overall, I enjoy it, use to carry lots of stuff and would recommend it to others.

Wouldnt trade it for the world - 2002 Ford Escape
By Sheli - September 19 - 2:00 amI bought the Escape in 2001 because I wanted an SUV that wouldnt "break the bank" with gas mileage. I consistently get 20 MPG and have had only one mechanical problem. I have 50000 miles on it with no intentions of trading it in. I love this SUV!!

Hoping it lasts - 2002 Ford Escape
By shelloaz - September 10 - 2:00 amI love the way my Escape drives and looks. I wish it didnt have so many little problems. This is my first time owning a Ford, I dont think I will be buying another one. I have had a problem with the check engine light coming on, fixed at dealer. A/C control knob broke, A/C is not very cold, having that checked in a couple of days, clunking sound coming from brakes when stopping. For a vehicle only 1 yr. old I didnt expect all these problems. My Toyotas always lasted 200,000 miles with very few problems, mostly towards the end. I just hope my ESCAPE makes it without bankruping us.

2002 Escape 4WD fun and feistiness - 2002 Ford Escape
By NoJunk - August 28 - 2:00 amGood looking, handles great on ice and in snow. I use it a lot for backraod access to hiking trailheads and it outperforms other vehicles I have driven in similar conditions (e.g. Land Rover). Lots of pep.
