This Year's Model Updates:

Now into its third year of production, the Impala soldiers on as Chevrolet's bread-and-butter family sedan. Minor upgrades this year include standard dual-zone air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo and LATCH child seat tether anchors. A leather-accented 60/40 split bench seat will be available later this year on LS models, and two new exterior colors have been added.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, wallowy suspension,low-buck interior.

  • Enjoyable - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

My Impala is a pleasure to drive. Ive had 5 people in the LS w/ plenty of room. It has a decent ride, but could be a lil softer w/ those nice expansion joints on highways. It has nice "get up and go" power, as well as ample passing power. I have taken the car on trips to Ohio from MD, and get great gas mileage. And very little discomfort after a 3-4hr drive. Overall, Im very satisfied w/ the vehicle. With the price, you cant kick all the extras you get.

  • Reliable Car - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

I bought the car in 2002 new. I now have 112,000 miles on it. I live in Iowa and drive on pavement, gravel roads and even farm fields. This car runs like a Swiss watch. I have the 3.8 engine and highly recommend its excellent combination of torque and fuel economy. This car is heavy so it feels extemely solid in snow, ice or rain yet is still will average close to 30 miles per gallon in highway driving. The car has a huge trunk and it it does a great job of transporting my young family of four with all our assorted luggage and toys. Traction control, ABS, Airbags, and the cars solid feel all give me a sense of imense safety when taking my family on the road. A value leader!

Fairly satisfied with vehicle. Fuel economy is VERY FAR below advertised, and no, I dont have a heavy foot. I average about 18 mpg - the car was advertised as 25-30 mpg. This is including city (40%) and highway (60%) miles.

  • Great Car - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

I have really enjoyed the Impala. The seats are great and it is a lot of fun to drive. It sticks to the road well in the turns and has a responsive engine and transmission. I think the up coming sports package will help the exterior look a more stylish. Great sedan.

  • Still Love our 02 Impala - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Still a wonderful family vehicle after three years. No problems whatsoever, lots of room for two adults, a toddler and an infant. Trunk is massive and holds stroller and luggage for a weekend trip to the cabin. We broke it in well and regularly see 32 mpg on the highway using our own calculations (not the computer which shows 34 mpg). For the price it cant be beat. The engine and handling is more than sporty enough for a mid 30s family of four. No BMW but still very nice.

  • bad brakes - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Very poor front brakes, they go out of round every 20,000 miles. Need better quality material in the brakes, same problem on my 2000 Malibu.

The car is great to drive, very responsive and with very good acceleration. Have had issues with the brake rotors and transmission that both had to be replaced under warrenty. Rotors at 15000 miles transmission at 37000. Would recommend extended warrenty.

  • Exxxxcellent! - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Our 02 LS has been a great car for us. We especially enjoy driving it on our frequent weekend road trips ... it is comfortable, economical and the 3800 V6 offers more than adequate power for the highway. The best upgrade weve made was the addition of XM Satellite Radio ... really helps make long drives more enjoyable. Our sleek black Impala looks sharp, too, with its LS Sport Appearance Package. It still draws admiring comments from friends and acquaintances. The luxury touches -- heated leather seats in front, the self-dimming rearview mirror and the compass, to name a few -- are much appreciated. Our Impala just turned 25,000 miles and has been quite reliable.
