Overview & Reviews
Now into its third year of production, the Impala soldiers on as Chevrolet's bread-and-butter family sedan. Minor upgrades this year include standard dual-zone air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo and LATCH child seat tether anchors. A leather-accented 60/40 split bench seat will be available later this year on LS models, and two new exterior colors have been added.
- Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
- So-so styling, wallowy suspension,low-buck interior.

Disappointed - 2002 Chevrolet Impala
By PS - February 20 - 7:52 pmWe had to make a fast purchase after our van was totaled. The car felt solid, tranny, engine, and suspension. Bought it with 110K now 8 months later has 118k, so far have replaced windshield (all pitted), battery, intake gasket. Headlight switch is bad (lights go out on whim, brights wont stay on), engine light is on, drivers window is stuck open, all door gaskets are torn when bought it. Hub cap paint is peeling off. So disappointing. Never have we put so much into a vehicle. I thought Id like a new Impala for my next vehicle, but not now anymore.

Put to rest - 2002 Chevrolet Impala
By PK in CA - January 15 - 4:05 pmI purchased the LS new. After 140,000 the cat converter died. There were mechanical problems that seemed more frequent then I would have hoped. Good overall considering all the stop & go of Los Angeles. Brakes and tires performed well. Replaced battery after 5 years, spark plug wires needed replacing. No transmission problems, no electric motor problems.

Leased 2 impalas -- 3.4 and 3.8 LS - 2002 Chevrolet Impala
By Ed Liss - September 7 - 10:00 amBest cars I ever owned. Tight, trouble/maintenance free. No problems whatsoever. 3.8 handles better than 3.4, which has just adequate power. Lease on both is up 9/02. Looked at new Deville, spoke to current owners and mechanics. All gave thumbs down to Caddy. Looks like Ill be getting 2 new 03 Impalas.

Too Many Problems, Too Soon - 2002 Chevrolet Impala
By BigEl - August 20 - 9:00 amLets see. I bought this car at 35K, 2 years later I have 66K. I have had to change the cat converter, the entire rear brake system and now at only 66K, I am being told that I have to have my transmission rebuilt. Its making this big noise as if Im driving a truck. And to top it off, the amp or the radio went so I have no music. also, my power window switch needs replacing. Shouldnt have these problems with a car that is 6 years old with me being the 3rd driver of this vehicle since manufactured and the 2nd guy only had it for a year. No more American cars for me. Too busy skimping on quality parts to make us spend more money instead of making a long-lasting, reliable vehicle.

02 Chevy - 2002 Chevrolet Impala
By Karen - July 30 - 12:40 pmI bought the car brand new and was very reliable until I hit around 40k. Now it stalls out every other day and I have had to fix the engine almost three times. All kinds of creaks and rattles that are very annoying while driving in the car.

Good Commuter Car - 2002 Chevrolet Impala
By BC - May 30 - 9:46 amBought this car used in 2004 with 26K on it. Now close to 70K. Great highway gas mileage. No real problems other than transmission sensor went out. Original tiger paws still on. Great car!

It works for me & my jobs - 2002 Chevrolet Impala
By Cedric - April 16 - 10:50 amIve had this car for about a year now with next to no problems. I was just use to driving SUVs until I tried sedans especially in the winter and it is great. In my line of work this car can really get up to speed when needed. The only problem was with the dash board instrumentation.

Its good - 2002 Chevrolet Impala
By ladyj - March 28 - 4:37 pmI bought my 2002 used with abou 64K miles on it. Its run well, but has had issues that mechanics tell me are typical for this car. Had to replace intake manifold gasket, major work to front end including replaceing a wheel hub because of bad bearing, fixed power window switch on drivers side, had to have ignition replaced. That said, I still love the thing and Im buying a newer model when I can.
