Overview & Reviews
This year a standard CD player, climate control and power seats. The 4.4-liter V8 of the 540 now makes 290 horsepower, up 8 from last year. Rear side-impact airbags are now a no-charge option, rather than standard.
- Thrilling to drive, luxurious ride quality, clean exterior styling.
- Confusing interior markings, demanding manual transmission, high-end models are pricey.

The Ultimate Driving Machine - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By Jeff - April 21 - 1:48 pmI purchased the car used with about 30K miles on it. I have been driving it for about a year and absolutely love it. I drove some used Audis and Mercedes and they just didnt have the sporty/luxury feel I was looking for in a car. The engine is quick to respond when you step on it, and there is just enough room in the car for my 67 frame, with enough to fit my average sized friends in the back. I test drove the 525i and there wasnt enough power. Loved the 540i, but didnt want the gas mileage problem. Couldnt ask for a better car, love it and I never see myself going away from BMWs.

Disappointing - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By Anonymous - February 5 - 3:08 amGiven the uniformly positive reviews on the e39 body 5-series, I was prepared to love this car. But it has been so disappointing that Im considering selling it after five months of ownership. The problem is simple -- and no its not the cupholders, which I agree are flimsy but they dont bother me. Its the constant and apparently unfixable creaks, squeaks, and rattles from the doors, the rear hatch, the seats, etc. (Ive had it in at the dealer several times.) Also disappointing is the junky sound of the doors when slammed closed. Of the about 10 cars Ive owned, this is one of the biggest bucket of bolts of the lot. If I could go back in time, I would NOT have bought this car.

Love this car! - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By gkatlanta - December 26 - 9:21 pmI have owned three previous BMWs including an E39 Wagon but nothing has come close to the performance and handling of this car. Definitely a wolf in sheeps clothing. Wonderful to drive on a long winding road. Not a single problem since Ive had this car. I still love driving this car every day.

BMW530i - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By PCH530 - December 8 - 11:00 pmI recently purchased the 530i. I spent a lot of time comparing the BWM to other cars in its class. Simply put, the BMW takes the driving experience to another level. I enjoy every minute I spend driving this car. I highly recommend that anyone looking for a first class ride seriously concider a BMW.

BMW 530i - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By florian - October 5 - 6:46 amThe car is unbelievably well engineered and offers a fabulous ride. Holds the road very good, and you do not feel the speed. Brakes are swift and smooth. To make a long story short: best car I ever drove (compared to Mercedes, Acura, Mazda, Lexus)

Amazing! - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By MarkJump - August 1 - 11:58 pmAmazing performance, synergy with driver, quality, features, completeness of design. The very definition of excitement, excellence, and elegance. A whole level beyond most anything else. Supercar capability combines with everyday utility. Why did I wait so long to go Bimmer?

Awesome - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By Duff - July 22 - 7:44 pmThis car cannot compare to any other vehicle in the same class. The car handles the same at 40 as it does at 120. It has the power to handle almost any situation and handles just as well in foul weather with the exception of snow! If you have considered something other than a BMW, think again! Everyday is a new driving experience with a BMW. Be careful, once you stepped up to a different class driving machine, you will never take a step backwards.

It works for me - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By Don G. - July 5 - 9:30 pmLower front bumper takes all the punishment due to sport suspension. One cannot be careful enough when parking in a space where the car is driven into a stall. Due to the sport suspension, any curbing higher then four (4) inches will catch on the bumper and potentially cause damage. My damage to date has resulted in an $85.00 repair bill. Other then that, the car meets all my expectations and is a pleasure to drive.
