Overview & Reviews
This year a standard CD player, climate control and power seats. The 4.4-liter V8 of the 540 now makes 290 horsepower, up 8 from last year. Rear side-impact airbags are now a no-charge option, rather than standard.
- Thrilling to drive, luxurious ride quality, clean exterior styling.
- Confusing interior markings, demanding manual transmission, high-end models are pricey.

A 5 thats almost a 10 - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By BoyOboi78 - August 25 - 2:00 amhad an Acura TL but didnt want another one. had a 99 Audi A6 and had nothing but problems, so no more Audis for me . tried out a Mercedes Benz E320, nice car but didnt seem to ride as nice, handle as well, or be smoother or quieter then the 5, plus the price and value didnt seem to be worth it. The Lexus GS300 was also another nice car i drove, but was to underdamped in my opinion and didnt feel as refined as in closing the doors or the trunk like the solidness of the 5 series. Jaguar S type, well basically build in partner ship with ford and kinda screamed cheap from a few of its parts. the 5 series has the right combination of an upscale luxury car

one word: problems - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By DallasDriver - August 9 - 2:00 amI love the car (525i with M sports package manual) when I actually get to drive it and when it works. It spent more time in the service dept than with me (hence the low mileage). The svc. dept. rep. knows me on a first name basis. Took it twice for the air bag light once for a problem with the drivers seat 4 times for a clutch problem (which has not been solved yet). Im in the process of looking for a new car. Definitely NOT a BMW.

My First BMW - The 525IA - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By Stan Davidson - July 31 - 2:00 amI am a car lover, and own 4 cars. The BMW is the most refined of any car I have ever owned. Excellent service with only oil changes and routine maintenance required. The comfort and handling are very good.

A blast to drive Rocket Wagon - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By JDMartin - July 25 - 2:00 amThis car has plenty of room to carry whatever you need, but with the driving pleasure of a sports car. A long time luxury SUV driver (Grand Cherokee, Denali XL), I wanted a car that handled better for a change. This is definitely the one. It is definitely nice to look at, and if you take this car out on your favorite windy road you will experience complete exhilaration.

loving the autobahn - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By back2backbimmers - June 27 - 2:00 amI drive my 530i(sports premium,18" wheels) from Heidelberg to Frankfurt on a weekly basis. One word..exhilarating. If performance, quality ride, and luxury is what you want, then this is the car to buy. All I can say is that I love to see the "unlimited speed" signs.

Unparalleled Driving Experience - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By eyemac - June 17 - 2:00 am2002 525ia w/sport and premium packages, steptronic transmission-this car is flawless. the exterior is as appealing as any car in its class or size, the ride is a notch or two above the Lexus. the seats lumbar support (you GOTTA buy the premium and sport packages) makes you feel like youre in a cockpit. when you "open it up", you dont hear road noise until 90 mph. finally, this car turns heads. i bought (i dont "rent" autos) the rare slate green exterior with the stone green trim, and women, as well as men compliment me daily. p.s. buy a radar detector. you will test the cars limits. **hint** the car wont let you down.

BMW Still Top Performer in Class - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By gneissgod - June 11 - 10:00 amThe BMW 540i is still the best in class. As a luxury vehicle it has every amenity that anyone would want to have. As a sport sedan it has power and is as agile as a cat. The sound system is spectacular but you really dont need one because listening to the engine as you drive is music to a true drivers ears.

Great car - 2002 BMW 5-Series
By Peterbmw - May 14 - 1:10 amThe transmission gave me a lot of problems when I hit 4k miles. I was not able to go reverse. It took me about 4 weeks to get a service date. The service was good, but it was another week for them to repalce the transmissoin. Now, I can go into reverse, but i think the guy who did my car must have had a little alignment problem because its difficult to get into 3rd and 4th gear now.
