This Year's Model Updates:

BMW has seen fit to give the sedans and wagons a facelift for 2002. An in-dash CD player finally makes it onto the standard features list. The center stack has been altered to accommodate the new automatic climate controls. Steptronic automanual operation has been altered so that you move the transmission lever forward for downshifts and backward for upshifts. Bi-xenon headlamps are on the options list so that both low and high beams can glow a cold blue and can be set to automatic operation. Rear side airbags are available for coupes and convertibles. Two new colors, Electric Red and Gray Green (and a Natural Brown interior leather) join the color spectrum.

Pros:
  • Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Pricey for their market segment, limited rear-seat space and cargo capacity.

  • Wanted a BMW for a long time - 2002 BMW 3-Series

And I finally got one. But at less than 3k on the odometer, the car dies. Turns out the instrument cluster was bad. It was replaced under warranty, after I had it towed to the dealership (I had to pay for the cost of towing up front), but it would have cost me $600.00 otherwise. Since then, it has been pretty reliable. But for $40k, I dont expect anything to go wrong. After all, my 86 Accord and 90 Integra never had any mechanical problems until 200k miles. Just changed the clutch on the Integra at 213k miles.

It was either this or the A4 1.8T at the time after narrowing the field but I got a better deal on the 325, plus the 6-cyl had a better feel to it. The 325 handles great in all kinds of conditions (doesnt snow so much in Los Angeles but Ive driven in rain, traffic jams, mountain roads, city streets). No problems yet, just routine maintenance & replacement of back brakes (probably due to freeway congestion & starts/stops). Its hard to describe, but it feels more solid & glued to the road, quicker and safer than any other sedan you might otherwise buy.

My wife and I use this as our third car. It is a blast. Great handling, lots of pickup. We have already been ticketed twice for speeding (just a little!) The looks cannot be beat.

This is my 5th 3 series bmw (2nd e46). The e46 has the best over fit, finish, quality, etc Overall it has everything. Its a tight ride, styling is excellent. I could go on and on. I tried a couple fords, gms in between all the purchases of BMW, the BMW is just a well engineered car, no squeaks, etc

  • Still Smiling! - 2002 BMW 3-Series

Had this car a little over a year as a mid-life crisis solver. I smile every time I drive it. A real head turner. Not real keen on the oil-change schedule. Never gone that long before. The car is a blast to drive, especially in the mountains of NC.

  • Great car, loving BMW - 2002 BMW 3-Series

I used to own a Mustang GT before my Bimmer. After test driving the BMW I realized what a piece of junk I had been driving. The BMW has been a joy to own with hardly any problems. The steering, handling, and power is ridiculous.

  • My dream car - 2002 BMW 3-Series
    By -

I upgraded from a 99 BMW 328i to a 2002 BMW 330i, so you know I was pleased with my 1st BMW experience. I bought a "program" car with 15K miles with almost all the options including Sport/premium package, Xenon and heated seats. My previous car did not have the sport package or Xenon. This model has auto-head lights. I would recommend this car to anyone who loves to drive with enthusiasm and likes "performance" driving, but not to someone looking for a luxury car. Cant wait to try it on the track! If you can afford it, get the Performance package.

  • There is no comparison - 2002 BMW 3-Series

This is my 2nd 3-series BMW. The handling / drivetrain is impeccable. The exterior and interior finish is superb. I could go on for pages and pages about how fun this car is to drive but you simply have to get behind the wheel to know what Im talking about. Only bad points ? : Mediocre sound system. Had to install a short shift kit to get for a good precice shifter feel. Milage isnt great if you drive enthusiastically :-)

This is my first BMW and I will find it hard to go back to driving anything else. The handling is great and the car just makes you feel good when you drive it.
