This Year's Model Updates:

BMW has seen fit to give the sedans and wagons a facelift for 2002. An in-dash CD player finally makes it onto the standard features list. The center stack has been altered to accommodate the new automatic climate controls. Steptronic automanual operation has been altered so that you move the transmission lever forward for downshifts and backward for upshifts. Bi-xenon headlamps are on the options list so that both low and high beams can glow a cold blue and can be set to automatic operation. Rear side airbags are available for coupes and convertibles. Two new colors, Electric Red and Gray Green (and a Natural Brown interior leather) join the color spectrum.

Pros:
  • Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Pricey for their market segment, limited rear-seat space and cargo capacity.

so unreliable!!! Ive spent more than this car is worth in repairs. Its in the shop more than it is on the road. Now there is an electral problem no one can seem to fix. Mine has about 150,000 miles on it, and Ive had it for 2 1/2 years. Ive spent over $5,000 in repairs, and the car was $7,500. I still owe $3,500 on it. My advice get a Chevy.

I bought this car in May (2001) and I just recently traded it in for a Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This car (BMW) was an absolute nightmare! Problems ranging from leaks in the driver foot well to airconditioning malfunctions to sunroof noises. This car was not worth the $33,000 . In my opinion If you want a good German built car go for a Benz or an Audi. Dont waste your time with BMW. The whole experience with the dealership and service people was also a nightmare. Last, the build quility was terrible; if I was driving over a bumpy road, the car would sound like it was falling apart. NEVER AGAIN!! (Cheap Materials)

I have had nothing but problems with this car. The a/c didnt work from the factory and there are numerous other things too much to mention. Avoid this car, unless you have money to throw away.

  • Why do BMWs fall apart so fast? - 2002 BMW 3-Series

At first it was a passionate love affair every drive was special. But now, only 20,000 miles later . . . Im looking to get out of it. Combine the arrogance of their dealers, with the abnoxious behavior of their NJ HQs personnel, and what do you have? A terrible product that, even though it drives well, isnt worth the grief that it puts you through. Things gone wrong: 1. suspension bushing fell out 2. drinks coolant (and no one knows where it goes) 3. its on its 3rd set of cup holders 4. radio speakers giving up the ghost 5. AC always recirculates cant stop 6. steering wheel squeeks (but only when away from the dealership) 7. other probs 2.
