Overview & Reviews
A redesigned S40 was introduced halfway through the 2004 model year as a 2004.5 model. It continues into 2005 unchanged.
- Sharper handling than you would expect from a Volvo, T5 version offers quick acceleration, well-designed interior controls, long list of safety features, available all-wheel drive.
- Firm suspension can be choppy on the highway, average performance from the non-turbo engine.

Worst car Ive ever owned - 2005 Volvo S40
By sgtcheesenols - November 3 - 6:25 pmI have owned a Mitsubishi and 2 Hyundais in my lifetime, and taken all of them beyond 100K miles. They all had minimal issues, and 2 of them are still running with their new owners. At 50K miles, this Volvo began having a myriad of issues. I spent over $6K fixing it, and finally gave up. I had to replace the Dashboard A/C vents, the A/C compressor, the ceiling carpet, the brakes, both engine mounts, among other things. I finally gave up! The quality and reliability of this vehicle is horrible enough to make me never want to buy a Volvo again. Buyer beware if you plan

Excellent Value - 2005 Volvo S40
By chaz - October 30 - 1:46 amThis is our first Volvo and so far I,m very impressed, The styling, both interior and exterior is very eye catching. The safety features are second to none and while the performance of the 2.4I is nothing special it does offer adequate power and above average ride and handling. I highly recommend the heated leather seats as well as the sport package which includes 17" alloy wheels. The base single CD player is more than adequate. On the downside the interior is a little cramped for me,(602,200lbs)and the back seat would be very tight for adults. Also, our standard sized booster seats did not fit in the back seats. Volvo does offer as an accessorie a booster cushion/ backrest.

Tellin All: A Female Perspective - 2005 Volvo S40
By BPH - September 27 - 7:46 amI test drove, researched and admired the T5 months before the big purchase. A4 came close in handling and comfort and the Saab 9-3 in speed and safety. What kept drawing me back? The car has an amazing stereo system with and without the upgrade, is fabulous in all weather conditions, received 5 stars in side-impact crash testing and did I mention how fast it is? I went with the 6 speed, which took a bit getting used to BUT it was worth it! I definitely recommend the sport package, for it gives the S40 a unique and sleek appearance. You might ask yourself .. is everyone really staring at me? The answer is YES! This car is definitely a great bang for the buck.

Johns - 2005 Volvo S40
By stormcloud - September 18 - 10:00 amBeautiful and fun car to drive. Not underpowered compared to 2004 S40 it replaced. Old car totaled in chain crash without injury to driver. 2004.5 feels even more solid. Rain sensor auto drives wipers when rain varys.

Great little car - 2005 Volvo S40
By K Borton - September 13 - 12:33 amThis was my first car; while not real fancy, it was reliable. I never had a problem with the car. Regular service, but never a major repair

still love this car . . . - 2005 Volvo S40
By smb83 - September 12 - 12:03 amI have had this car almost two years and am still very happy. 28-30 mpg consistently. No problems, just in for software upgrade on radio one time. Easy and fun to drive; great on highway and around town; great in snow and rain. Very happy, will definitely buy another S40 when ready to trade. Love my S40.

Great Car - 2005 Volvo S40
By GJacobs - July 23 - 11:33 amVery solidly built car. Manual shift makes car fun to drive. Great pickup (5 cylinder) easy to drive/steer. Drastic change/improvement in car design over previous years. Very good value for the money and compared to its competitors.

Love my 2nd S40! - 2005 Volvo S40
By nsg - June 25 - 10:00 amI leased my first S40 in 2001...when my lease expired I expected to try out another vehicle...possibly the Audi A4 or the BMW 325 series. After seeing the new S40 models I went to the dealership to test drive it...love at first sight. I must say this is a new and improved S40...much sportier and fancier than my last vehicle. I love the new design and features. Volvo for Life!

Love it! But? - 2005 Volvo S40
By thetruth - May 12 - 5:56 pmLove my car it is a sexy fun car. I have the 6 sp manual and it is a straight rocket! One thing never, never, never, go to the dealer for service or problems. Volvo dealers are scam artists! I have a local mechanic who does all my maintenance and does better work for a 5th of the cost. He saved me when there was a recall on the pvc air box. My air box blew before the recall and when that blows your timing belt gets oil on it, when that happens the timing belt goes bad fast. Well he recommended I change it and probably saved me 4000. Ive heard people who went the the dealer and didnt get the good advice and had to pay 4000 once it broke. When it could have been prevented.

S40 2.4i - 2005 Volvo S40
By Jason - April 10 - 11:36 amAwesome little car, fun for 2 people, 4 is definitely a crowd though, unless your friends are small. the performance of the 2.4i just isnt there, but the T5 which I test drove is a blast, the 2.4i is great fun, but if youre a serious driver, get the T5 S40 or an S60R
