  • 4 runner, 2wd, 4cyl - 1996 Toyota 4Runner

I bought my 4 runner new in 1996. It now has over 230,000 miles. Other than change the fluids and filters, and replacing the brakes, its only required one repair; a cracked exhaust manifold at 190,000 miles. The 4 cylinder lacks power, but it gets good gas mileage (25 mpg highway). It will cruise at 80 on the highway as long as its flat. The paint started fading after about 10 years. It also had two rust spots under the roof rack that I had to repair, but Im not complaining since it sits outside, a mile from the ocean in South Florida.

Except for a head gasket recall paid for by Toyota this vehicle has been great. The rear seat is uncomfortable for adults & teens on long drives. Rear seat riders cause a harsh ride over bumps as well. With AC running gets 18/21 MPG. Without AC gets 19/24 MPG. No problem driving around in 20 inch snow. Pulls my 2,800 lb boat/trailer OK. Pleasure to drive. Dont like the unconventional tail lamp bulbs - (expensive at dealerships). Too bad Toyota hasnt got the Jade Green Metallic paint and good intruments on new 4runner models.

  • Its still going! - 1996 Toyota 4Runner

Bought my car when it was 2 yrs old w/ 35k miles. It now has over 260k in original miles and its still chugging along. The most reliable car Ive had! Got it fixed maybe a couple times mainly due to an accident it was involved in-other than that it doesnt give us any problems at all.

  • My 2 day review of my 1996 4-runner - 1996 Toyota 4Runner

I purchased my 4-Runner just 2 days ago, and already i have to agree with many here that this is quite possibly the nicest SUV on the market for the price. With 108,000 miles on the odometer i payed just above $10,000 for mine (a steal thanks to my brothers car lot and team). This truck is just a dream come true...interior is awesome, exterior is awesome and over all...this thing is amazing, perfect for my needs, as i haul my track civic around to various locations for show and races, this thing in the last 2 days has sold me again and again.

  • Unstoppable!! - 1996 Toyota 4Runner

My parents bought my 4runner when I was younger but I never thought that I would end up with it. This baby was on the showroom floor. I have had it now for 3 years and man oh man its sweet, it goes anywhere! And with some slight mods its unstoppable! I have rolled it on its lid and I flipped it back over and within 2 hours it was running again! If you are doubting getting a 4runner I would think again this is one of the safest rigs out there! My baby off roads and races down the track. The best of both worlds!

  • Great SUV - 1996 Toyota 4Runner

I drove 3 Cherokees over 200,000 miles each, but wanted even better reliability since I drive 40,000+ miles per year in sales. I looked for 3 years until I found the 4Runner I was looking for. The reliability factor was just as great as the reviews said. All I have had to do is change the oil and struts. I have already driven it 120,000 miles. I would definitely buy another.

  • Its a Toyota! - 1996 Toyota 4Runner

No question about it, the 4Runner is the nicest all around balanced SUV available. It is a truck, it is tough. Isnt that what an SUV is supposed to be? Average gas mileage. Nothing more dependable out there. Great resale values.

  • Solid & reliable - 1996 Toyota 4Runner

Bought this vehicle used in 2000 with 100000 km. Aside from periodic oil changes, it hasnt cost me a penny, extremely reliable through the harshest conditions. Fuel mileage could be better, but still a small price to pay for the trouble free performance. Highly recomended, would buy another Toyota without thinking twice.

  • Best vehicle ever! - 1996 Toyota 4Runner

This car has given me 211,000 miles and counting with minimal maintenance issues. The mileage includes brutal off-roading excursions and dozens of hunting trips. I have had the vehicle break down on me once in 13 years of ownership. You cannot ask for a more reliable vehicle.

  • I Love My 4Runner!!! - 1996 Toyota 4Runner

My 4Runner has 193,000 miles. Ive never had any problems with it at all. In fact, more people buy 4Runners because of the quality and durability of mine than from teh commercials theyve seen. They cant believe Im knocking on 200,000 miles and still going strong. I bought it in 2001 with 120,000 and havent looked back. I cant believe how well these trucks hold their retail value either. My next vehicle will be another 4Runner.
