Mazda lemon - 1999 Mazda 626
By BadgerXX3 - September 9 - 10:00 amSince the date of purchase this car was in the shop. Built on a sunny Friday afternoon. Problems with the Climate control system and a noisy back end. Transmission repair due to excessive vibration. Drive belts were also an issue. Left me stranded twice, I would not recommend the 626.

buyer beware - 1999 Mazda 626
By Dave - August 4 - 6:23 pmAfter owning this car for almost 2 years, our 626 has been a decent vehicle for my wife until now. Suddenly the transmission has gone out and had to be replaced. The tranny shop told us that they see a LOT of these Ford transmissions and said most dont make it to 100k miles. I have a Honda and a Mitsubishi that both have over 165k and have had no problems whatsoever. No late model car should have transmission problems this soon (our 626 has about 105k on it). I am now finding that this is fairly common with the 626, so keep that in mind if you are considering buying one. If you do still buy one, go for the V6.

I love my car - 1999 Mazda 626
By krissy - June 27 - 2:00 amI love my car. I had a 95 626 and traded it in for a 99. I could not find a vehicle that I liked as much as this one for the price.

Disappointed in 626 transmission issues - 1999 Mazda 626
By Disappointed 626er - June 16 - 10:00 amI bought my 626 new and had no problems until recently. I only have 42,000 miles on a 4 year car and the dealership says I have to pay for an external cooler for my transmission to "preserve" the transmission because it WILL go out early.

My Awesome 626. Love her to death. - 1999 Mazda 626
By Javes - May 2 - 11:23 pmAlright, so I bought this great piece of engineering my sophomore year of high school. I am now a sophomore in college. I love this vehicle! Small but, "quick" 2 liter engine coupled with the five speed manual is great to drive. Dont buy an auto, LOL. No fun, at all (and unreliable), great interior, clean, with a decent sound system. (I remember, it was decent. Lost the cd player at about. 145,000 miles.) power antenna is great! People just dont take care of them (grease) and say that its mazdas fault. (sorry, its yours.) clutch is still going, at 165,000 miles! As the reliability reports says, the intake gasket does go, I replaced mine at 135,000. No major problems since.

Had to buy it, but not unhappy! - 1999 Mazda 626
By FourPanMan - December 8 - 10:00 amI leased this car back in 1999 - the only V6 5-speed in the entire state of Florida - and now its time to turn it in. One problem, I have 87,000 miles on it and was only allowed 36k. However, Im not unhappy about buying the car. Its fast, handles well, gets great mileage, and aside from basic maintenance, Ive put a total of $25 into it. Ive outrun more cars than I care to admit and survived one pretty serious accident.

More Trouble Than My Three Kids! - 1999 Mazda 626
By Samantha Rector - November 21 - 9:56 pmI bought the car with 60,000 miles. And in two weeks of owning the car the transmission went out. The car was under a 30 day warranty so the dealership paid for a rebuilt transmission to put into the car. Less than a year later the transmission that was put in went out. I had to pay $1,800.00 to have another transmission put in (this is the third transmission in this car). I had to take back 6 months later because my car would not go into reverse. The mechanic told me that the transmission in the Mazdas are consistently failing. A/C stopped working. Pulley is going out. Trading in for a Infiniti.

Used and Abused but still rolling along - 1999 Mazda 626
By BudMech - July 16 - 4:16 pmMy dad bought me this car in February of 2010 for my sophomore year in high school. We knew it had problems but we got it for only $1,180 and 129,000 miles on the odometer. After having it inspected the next day I discovered that it was a hunk of junk basically. It still needs its drivers side steering control arm replaced,a new catalytic converter, a new muffler and eventually the transmission. The car is working its way down the shifter and is unstable in Park and Reverse gears. The minor stuff is the power antenna and drivers power door locking mechanism and discs and drums. He uses it to drive to work and it hasnt killed him yet so maybe it will give out before I "officially get it."
