Tensioner/Alternator/stops going 60mph - 2001 Hyundai XG300
By Trendfriendpa - December 6 - 8:33 amLike the car, get compliments on styling and comfort. Unfortunately had to replace the tensioners and belts 3 times (tensioners chew the belts badly), replaced the alternator at 50,000. Have had a shudder when going from high speeds to slowly down at ramps or traffic slows suddenly. Have 98,000 miles on it and now going at 60 mph, the car engines just stops. Next thing I will be killed because of this. The dealerships service is bad, cant find anything wrong - I take it to my regular mechanic who fixes it. Service means save the dealership money customer spends it elsewhere. Oh, yes, the paint started peeling after 2 years on the driver side running board. Not their problem.

Expensive to Maintain - 2001 Hyundai XG300
By Richard - August 17 - 12:30 amI bought this car new in 2001 and I called it a "Poor Mans Lexus." The initial quality was rock solid but I had to replace the transmission at 90k and Hyundai pcked up the cost. I had the shuddering thing happening that someone mentioned in an earlier posting. Everything else (alternater, brakes, water pump, etc...) was very expensive to fix becuase you can only get genuine Hyundai parts. The check engine light comes on quite a bit and it is always something with this car. It seems to be very sensitive and the oil and oxygen sensors are always turning that damn light back on! Now I was told that it needs to have the catalitic converters ($3,000)replaced so it is time for me to get rid of it.

So far so good... - 2001 Hyundai XG300
By eje - July 27 - 3:03 pmWe looked at and drove many other similar cars: taurus, camry, etc... but broke down and looked at the Hyundai because of its looks, pricing, warranty, and 0 percent interest rate at the time. We were most impressed with all aspects of the car. We were the unhappy owners of a new 98 Malibu: in the shop 20 times in 3 years. We have not had no trouble with the XG in 7000 miles. We want a car that we can drive the wheels off of, and so far this car is promising.

Middle of the Road - 2001 Hyundai XG300
By picky picky - July 11 - 2:00 amI looked at Hyundai because of the warranty...and I fell in love with the leather seats, luxury features, and smooth ride for the great price. However, Ive been disappointed with the paint job, the fuel economy with the lack of pick up, and looking at trade in value...yikes! I like my XG, but I think Ill go back to Toyota for my next car.

XG300L...Jurys still out by Kiki - 2001 Hyundai XG300
By Kiki - April 30 - 12:53 pmHave had to return the Dealer numerous times. Not sure how much of the problem is Charlie Thomas or Hyundai. Took a year to get part of the exterior trim replaced. Still cant get them to fix my outside mirrors. The option to have them lower while in reverse does not always work. Sometimes they do not return to the programed position.

Reliable and Luxurious - 2001 Hyundai XG300
By Nick - November 19 - 4:00 pmI had purchased this car new in September of 2001. The current mileage on my XG is about 42K. I can honestly say that this is car has been the most reliable car that I have ever owned. While putting aside routine scheduled maintenance, this car has only been serviced 2 times. The 1st problem I had was that the glove box light would not go off when it was closed. The 2nd problem I had was the transmission shuttering, which was mentioned in some of the other reviews. The problem was a faulty trans. sensor which was replaced at 25k miles. The trans currently operates perfectly normal. Overall, this is a great car for the money and would definitely conside buying another one from Hyundai.

Get over it! - 2001 Hyundai XG300
By Jim Eubank - October 20 - 10:00 amThis is my fourth Hyundai Vehicle; one Elantra for a teenage daughter, 2 Sonatas, and now the bestest lastest. Everyone should get over it. Hyundai no longer builds shoddy automobiles. The wised up after the 80s. I will put my XG-300L up against any thing on the road of comparable size and 15000 dollars more expensive. Greatest of all is the 10/100000 mile warranty on the engine and tranny and the 5/60000 bumber-to-bumper. They dont do that because they think the car will have multiple problems, they are proud of it and dont expect to go broke fixing them. Get over it Detroit! Get over it Japan! Get over it critics! Hyundai is a contender.
