This Year's Model Updates:

The height-adjustable allroad debuted last year to fill a slot left in Audi's lineup by the lack of an SUV. For 2002, a heated multifunctional steering wheel with Tiptronic is an option, as is an OnStar telematics system. Standard is an in-dash six-disc changer. Brushed aluminum-finish accents spruce up the interior.

Pros:
  • Elegant styling, sumptuous interior, height-adjustable suspension, extensive safety features, lively V6 engine.
Cons:
  • Steep price tag, lack of a V8 engine, no transfer case for more adventurous off-roaders.

  • allroad -- segment busting since 2001 - 2002 Audi Allroad Quattro

This vehicle does so many things much better than adequately: blasting down the freeway on the lowest suspension setting, sliding around backwoods Adirondack dirt roads, plowing through snowbanks up on the highest setting, packed full of (heavy) band equipment without noticable wheezing or whining, and then cleaning up very nicely when called upon to do personal limousine duty. The only serious con continues to be the (perhaps) intentionally engineered- in transmission lag ... but allroad drivers learn to use sport or tip mode to lessen its effects.

When I first saw this car, i thought WOW!! thats one cool car. Audis have usually delivered "the goods" with regard to performance, but, alas this car is somewhat disappointing. turbo lag is very evident (automatic transmission); so far so that a group of disgruntled owners are petitioning audi of america to fix the "problem" as they call it a safety hazard. other HUGE performance problem is with the brake rotors. my allroad has 32,000 miles and im on my fourth set...that is completely unacceptable. driver door rattled from the first day, but always intermittently, so the repair guys thought i was an idiot...

  • a fine compromise - 2002 Audi Allroad Quattro

Aside from the severe color pallete that Audi seems to prefer for offroad vehicles - and interior colors which remind me of the German Army Wermacht uniforms -- the car itself has been totally reliable, does all I have ever asked, and if it were not leased, I would chip the engine and transmission for more oomph both from Stratmosphere in Rush, NY -- but no complaints at all. also have a great dealership.

Fit and Finish outstanding. Handling is very comfortable from a car of its weight. This car is a dream come true for the driver who wants everything in a car, looks, handling and a place to put your cargo.

the car is very sporty-a good small wagon with good rear leg room and great dash layout. Does well in snow with quattro system. Fuel economy could be better and it takes mid-grade- 89octane or better fuel. been getting about 19.5mpg avg. hwy/city mix-up to 23 mpg hwy only. Driver leg room a bit cramped widthwise. The first car Ive owned that is actually fun to drive.

  • quick, powerful, smooth..... BUT.... - 2002 Audi Allroad Quattro

My audi has 160,000 miles bought it not too long ago has no major problem but the oxygen censer gave up on me. other than that drive like new. the turbos are very nice has very little lag, it pick ups on the highway. the car hauls and has won me a race with a 740 bwm. my only big concern is the mpg in the city! this car really shine in the highway. for the power that it has it ok but i would love to see me squeezing a bit more on my fuel tank.

  • Keep accelerating--it will go eventually - 2002 Audi Allroad Quattro

The acceleration lag in this car in everyday city driving is horrible. In "D" mode, very high RPM before it shifts through the lower gears. "S" mode is a little better. On several occasions, Ive stepped on the gas from a stop and literally nothing happens unless the accelerator is pumped. Good thing no oncoming traffic or I would have been a sitting duck. From what I have read on this site, this is not unusual. Anyone have any solid feedback from Audi on this issue?

  • audi = porsche, without envy - 2002 Audi Allroad Quattro

This is a wonderful car to drive. It is fast, comfortable and easy to handle. My previous car was a BMW 633 csi. My new Audi may not be as flashy, but it is every bit as fun to drive. Also it doesnt evoke envy, which is a nice aspect since I live in a university town.

Great looks, many compliments. Not too many around so it has a great appleal. Excellent fit and finish. Poor full ecomony, but does have fulltime 4 wheel drive. Very fast pickup, but sensitive throttle. I have about 10,000 miles on the car with zero problems. I really enjoy driving this car.
