This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

Pros:
  • Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
Cons:
  • Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

  • Excellent to own - 2004 Volvo XC90

We bought the SUV last Feb and we love its safety, comfort and its easy to manage in severe snow storm. The heated seats and back provide warmth as soon as you start the car in cold weather. The premier sound is a plus to enjoy on the road and the children can select their favorite channels while we listen to our music. The sensor windshield is so convenient to have. The temperate can be set so it will not be too cold or too hot. This is a wonderful car to have and we love it since day one. We are Volvo lovers. Our first Volvo is 1990 240. Our 2nd Volvo is 1995 940 sedan and we still drive it.

The styling and creature comforts in the XC90 are outstanding. For an SUV, the fuel economy is pretty good at an average 18.5 MPG in combined city and hiway driving. The engine and road noise are almost non-existant. We took it cross country from Louisiana to Washington State (2700 miles)loaded. It got a flat 20 mpg fighting a head wind and 93 degree temp. with the AC fully engaged across the State of Texas. In Colorado it saw mountain passes at 11,000 feet in elevation. The winding mountain roads were a testament to the nimble handling abilities of the XC90 as well as the powerful twin turbos when throttled at highway speeds. Overall review - excellent.

I purchased this car used in 2006 for my wife. It is a great family suv. My wife does not like large vehicles and the XC90 has been an easy adjustment for her, It drives more like a car than truck or big SUV. The pros of the XC90 are a good ride, good handling, and a comfortable interior. The cons of this vehicle are poor fuel economy (16mpg city 21mpg hwy) combined with a small gas tank. The range on the XC90 is about 300-350 miles.

This SUV is awesome. It definitely is in a class of its own. The style is like no other. It doesnt have that blocky US SUV feel. The ride is the smoothest. Interior lacks a little in the leg room when talking about the second row. But hey the seats are plush and comfortable. And as alwyas all of the safety features are well ahead of other SUVs.

I HAVE OWNED MY VOLVO XC90 FOR 3 MONTHS AND IT IS A GREAT SUV! DRIVES GREAT, RIDES SMOOTHLY AND HAS PLENTY OF ROOM. THE 5 CYLINDER HAS GREAT POWER AND IT GETS 20 MPG WHICH I AM PLEASED WITH. A GREAT VEHICLE TO OWN. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

  • One of the best in the luxury SUV market - 2004 Volvo XC90

The luxury SUV market is getting crowded, but this one is definitely worth considering! This SUV has the typical European feel when driving - It has gives enough road feedback and feels firmly planted. It has some body roll around corners, but much less compared to other competitors (except the BMW and Infiniti). It also has the utility that many other midsize luxo SUVs lack. The safety features set the std for this market - Boron roof, Roll Stability control, pretensioners for all seven seats, list goes on.

  • a smooth ride - 2004 Volvo XC90

The XC90 5-cylinder seemed a little sluggish at first, but now that weve got a few miles on it, its more than quick enough. The ride is so smooth that you really have to watch the spedometer to keep at a reasonable speed. Size is good; more than the RX330 at a better price.

Very solid ride. Third row seating much more spacious than the Lexus GX470 or LX470.

I feel weight off my shoulders- I sold my Volvo last weekend for a Subaru Outback. In spite of poor SUV value it was relief to be rid of the constant maintenance. I bought it as a new mom hoping for the reliabilty and safety Volvo is known for--instead I spent literally every week at Volvo servicing another check engine light, gasket loose, a power source issue, a low voltage warning...you name it. I spent more time arranging childcare for my trips to the dealership than I did driving my children in it. It makes me so angry because I worked hard saving to buy this "high quality" vehicle for my family. I wish Volvo understood or cared how diappointed I am.

  • Riding so smooth then clunk!Tranny! - 2004 Volvo XC90

This vehicle is hands down the most elegant, smooth, and did I say smooth vehicle I have ever driven. The seats are so comfy, and the steering wheel just feels like silk! But then the transmission issue. Do not buy a t6 awd unless it has had the transmission upgrade! I bought one used now Im looking at $8,000.00 in repairs. Volvo knows its a huge prob and will pay for parts in some cases.
