Overview & Reviews
Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.
- Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
- Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

Edmunds Helped Me Make The Right Choice - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Diane - May 20 - 6:56 amI did my research before buying our 2007 Volvo XC90. Needed an AWD and wanted a safe and roomy ride for our grandchild. Edmunds really helped in the process of elimination and we are so happy we chose (and found) a Volvo. Thanks!

Boston Snow Storm - 2004 Volvo XC90
By JAB111 - April 10 - 2:00 amI bought this car because of the third row seat, Volvo saftey and the great experience we have had owning previous Volvos. But in the snow storm over the past weekend, I was amazed at how well the XC90 handled the 24 inches of snow. It went everywhere with no problems.

great SUV! - 2004 Volvo XC90
By xc90 lover - April 3 - 2:00 amI just purchased my XC90 about 2 weeks ago and I couldnt be happier. The ride is smooth and very comfortable. It was a toss up between the Acura MDX or the XC90 and what was the desiding factor was the feel of the road while I was driving. I could manuver my volvo very easily.

dashboard illumination sucks - 2004 Volvo XC90
By bobelsner - April 3 - 2:00 amElectronic dashboard controls are often impossible to read in bright daytime. The idiot who designed this must drive at night only, or else only drives on dark, cloudy days. This is a major flaw that Volvo should correct (on new and existing models), because it would prevent me from purchasing another Volvo XC-90.

better than MDX - 2004 Volvo XC90
By charles c lee - April 3 - 2:00 amMy final choices were XC90 Vs. Acura MDX after my wife and I drove Cadillac SRX,Lexus Rx330 and Gx470 and Lincoln Aviator. We then spent 3 months debating over them including multiple side by side comparison test drives. Volvo finally won out because of more European sports sedan flavor(MDX drives too much like my brothers Honda Odessy). Since I live in high altitude (Colorado),MDXs HP and tourq advantage disappears, and felt sluggish. In fact, once turbo kicks in, this car really moves like a sports car. In normal driving, 2.5T is not underpowered at all. This is actually fun car to drive which is very unusual for a 7 seat SUV.

So far so good - 2004 Volvo XC90
By rboilard - February 15 - 10:00 amSo far Im really enjoying the T6. Very tight and handles well. My only beef is that the fuel tank is to small (19 Gal) @ 15 MPG it seems that Im at the station every few days. Also the braking could be better, bigger discs?? Not a big fan on the sound system as well.

Love my XC90! - 2004 Volvo XC90
By brangmas - January 7 - 2:00 amIve driven this car since 9/03. My previous car was a Subaru Outback. This car is so comfortable. It has a distinctive external design, great head and tail lights for visibility. The seats are adjustable to a degree Ive never had before, and very cushy. I enjoy the heated seats...an extra, but worth it so far this winter. The dashboard controls are easy to read, and everything is easily accessible. The ride is very smooth and the car handles well on city streets, as well as the highway.

Beautiful, Competent & Thirsty - 2004 Volvo XC90
By jblaze13 - November 26 - 2:00 amVery comfortable ride. Vehicle is bigger than it looks. 5 cylinder engine performs well. However, the city gas mileage is terrible (15.8 observed) in cold weather. Short trips can get expensive with premium gas. Highway mileage is true to 24 mpg rating. I cant see how the T6 is worth the extra money. Exterior design is faaar more beautiful than just about anything in its class.
