Overview & Reviews
Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.
- Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
- Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

Great SUV - 2004 Volvo XC90
By ilv2laugh - July 25 - 10:30 pmI have owned my XC90 for two years now and I can tell you that I still LOVE it! I own the smaller engine model (T5) and I get 19.5 in the city and 26 on the highway MPG. Not bad considering any other luxury SUV gives you much less! People still stop me and tell me what a beautiful car I have. I feel very safe with my two toddlers in tow all around town.

Couldnt be happier. - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Washout - July 16 - 10:00 amBuild quality: excellent. 0 defects. Steering: tight and assured. Fine acceleration. Cargo capacity: plenty yet easy access to extra seats. My mileage: 22 Highway 15 City. Interior materials feel solid, even the fake wood feels good. Control layout: intuitive and clear. Turning circle is too large. Smooth transmission, way better than T6. Considered the X5, but I couldnt be happier. Oddly crappy radio reception.

Will be passing it along to my 16 year old son and am confident it will be a safe and reliable car for him. Its the first car Ive owned past 2 years (were on year 6, mile 90K+) by choice. I havent found anything else Id rather own.

Bought it cheap! Best car Ive ever owned!!! - 2004 Volvo XC90
By timinsantafe - June 27 - 12:47 amSeems like if you have the T6 AWD your doomed from the beginning with transmission and electrical problems. I picked up a 2004 2.5 5-cylinder with 80,000 miles and a blown motor at my local Volvo dealer for $2000.00!! Volvo had just installed a new transmission in it about 2000 miles before I bought it under warranty. I Called LKQ and they delivered a fresh 40,000 mile engine to my front door for $800 including shipping! Before I dropped the engine in, I installed a new timing belt water pump and replaced all the oil and coolant seals. Took about 3 days of wrench spinning and I now have a perfect 1 owner 2004 XC90 2.5 AWD with 80,000 miles for about $3200!!

Happy so far - 2004 Volvo XC90
By rx - June 17 - 10:00 amvehicle is great. unfortunately, dealership did not live up to the quality of the XC-90. prone to door nicks - the side bumper strip does little to protect the body. performance is excellent when you realized it is not a barn burner. general quality was better than expected (0 defects).

XC90 Great Car - 2004 Volvo XC90
By salebo - June 4 - 10:00 amThis car was a great purchase. The interior is beyond comfortable and the sound system spectacular. The center consol is a little sparce and looks nowhere near as luxurious as the rest of the car. The third row seat is great and fold flat down into the car, and the wooden steering wheel is nice. The availability to get the car is tough and getting DVD and/or navigation is much much harder. The rear backup control suprisingly came to be more helpful and worthwhile then I first imagined, and the Manumatic shifting is a fun feature my son enjoys. Compared to my 2000 RX300 this thing is a sports car, my take: when in the market seriously consider.

Phenomenal vehicle! - 2004 Volvo XC90
By AtlantaEric - May 28 - 10:00 amVolvo has outdone itself with this vehicle. The design, the performance, the quality of the materials and the workmanship - everything is just outstanding. This SUV is a fun to drive: it is quiet, sporty, comfortable, with wonderfully ergonomic controls. Yes, I looked at BMW X5 and Infiniti FX-whatever, and they dont even come close. Volvos XC90 is classy and sophisticated, and my neighbor doesnt have one. :-)

Wife had to have it! - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Bob Shepherd - May 22 - 2:00 amMy wife at, 5 foot 2 inches, has a hard time getting into and out of most SUVs. And since the XC-90 was going to be hers. We visited the Houston auto show last winter. She got into and out of every SUV there. The Toyoto was too tall. The Nissan was too far. And she couldnt even get over the edge of the BMWs seat. The XC-90 was just right! She had to have it!
