This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

Pros:
  • Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
Cons:
  • Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

  • Great Family SUV! - 2004 Volvo XC90
    By -

I purchased this XC90 from an original owner about 2 months ago with a little over 80K on it. The XC90 is a very tight/safe ride to be in. Before searching for an SUV Ive looked at the Sequoia, MDX and Pilot (all good cars) but at the end decided to purchase the XC90. The main reason for that was the safety features (curtain airbags on all seating rows) and how stable the car handles on the road especially at high speed.

  • Good but not a great car. - 2004 Volvo XC90

  • Good to Better - 2004 Volvo XC90

High quality vehicle; very large, needed to compete with the oversized vehicles on the roadways. Safety was the selling point, otherwise the CRV would have been the choice.

  • One of the best Volvo - 2004 Volvo XC90

I own this car for 1 year now, the car is beautiful, drives like regular sedan, good performance, and adequate horsepower for tasks. The 3rd row seat is very well designed, even its a bit small compare to other makess 3rd row seat, but the safety feature of Volvo is absolutely unsurpassed. Even though its not the biggest when compare to Hondas Pilot, Toyotas Sequoia, Acuras MDX, but its definitely one of the best designed, best builded, and most fun to drive.

  • Great car but lacks detail - 2004 Volvo XC90

  • Great car. Exactly what I wanted - 2004 Volvo XC90

Well designed and extremely safe. Just the right size for 64" frame, but not a standard SUV roadhog. Environmentally friendly

  • Radio Problems - 2004 Volvo XC90
    By -

My XC-90 has had very unusual problems, so the dealer informs me. One month out of warranty, the rear bearings needed to be replaced. The headlight covers are pitted and dis colored. The wheel nuts had to be replaced twice. The first time for rust the second time for wear???? The very last repair and most upsetting was for a new infotainment module. The problem began when the radio began looking like a disco. The lights began flashing and periodically the radio would shut off and the display would go blank. I can live without the radio, but when this problem corrupted the Air bag system to the point it might not work, I had to have it fixed at a cost of$1350.00 Volvo would do nothing

  • Pricey But Nice - 2004 Volvo XC90
    By -

We really struggled chooosing between this and the MDX. We ended up choosing the XC90 primarliy because it is more luxurious. It is also quieter, has a better ride and handling is superior. On the down side, the MDX is quicker and for about $4,000 less you navigation and RES with a rearview camera! In the final analysis we chose the XC90 because its more prestigious, refined and much more fun to drive.

  • Looks Good, Guzzles Gas - 2004 Volvo XC90
    By -

Ive had the XC90 since 4/1/03 and have gotten the most heinous gas mileage -- 10/11mpg City and 15/16 Hwy. The interior is very noisy but the excellent stereo mitigates it. Ive had the car back to the dealer three times in three months with various problems. The interior is mediocre/bland/sparse and back seat room tight. Lots of other little annoyances prove that looks arent everything.
