This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

Pros:
  • Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
Cons:
  • Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

  • Love It - 2004 Volvo XC90

Got my new XC90 in late May to drive from Florida to Vermont on its first trip. I was very pleasantly surprised of its confort and ease to drive on a long trip. The enhanced stereo option was worth the additional cost. My only suggestion for improvement would to relocate the clock to a more central location on the dash so it would be visable to passengers also. I would highly recommend this SUV to any family as the third row seating is great. I looked first at BMW, Mercedes and Lexus but the Volvo was better.

  • Extended Warrenty saves the day - 2004 Volvo XC90

This car is in the shop about once a month. Luckily we bought the extended service warranty as the build quality is on par with some of the first generation Korean models. Some the failures are real safety concerns. I guess the positive if the parts do fail and result in accident you know you will be safe.

We use our thrid row seats infrequently, but when we do....sure nice to have. The vehicle is solid as a rock, it drives very car-like and the engine is spirited, though it probably could use another 25hp. I wish we had purchased the navigation system.....would have been a fun accessory. The sound system is amazingly good once programmed, but trust me, to unlock all of the audio features you have to spend 2 hours on the setup.

Fund car to drive and great looking . The worst gas mileage possible and a small gas tank to boot . Wipers ceased to function in the snow and the vovlo roadside is useless on weekends as the dealership is closed on Sunday ....

  • Its a Cool Car - 2004 Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC 90 is a very cool / sleek SUV with all the safety features to keep your kids safe and sound. It does feel "heavy" but I guess that makes it all the more safer. We love it.

If the headlight covers were not so pitted, it would still look new, inside and out. After 60,000 miles I started changing my own oil and at 105,000 had that service done by a pro. We have the 2.5 and I wish it would shift to 5th gear earlier than it does. Otherwise, we just drive the thing. I have read a lot of reviews and we have not had the issues some reviewers note. Had a couple of issues that the dealer took care of. Does what I want. Looks fine in the driveway, starts and goes when we want. I carry most of the stuff. Level floor works like a mini van. Hope to get another 100,000 miles before replacing. Replaced front brake pads at 70,000 miles

My 04, XC90 is a tank; in a good way. Handles great in the snow and any wet weather and most assuredly can tear up the pavement. The third row seating could use more room, but after all it is a midsized suv. This is my 5th Volvo and 7th in two generations. I have 167,765 miles on my vehicle with the original transmission and turbos. Tires have come and gone, but the brakes have only been replaced once. As far as cost of upkeep...I bought a Volvo. No one who buys a Benz complains about price.

The XC90 is my 7th Volvo & will be my last.At 60,000 mile service the check engine light came on & the dealer replaced the mass airflow sensor for $600.00. The next day after the repair, the check engine light came on again, the dealer told me the oil trap needed to be replaced, a $1200.00 repair. I found out from a Volvo mechanic that if the mass airflow sensor was bad, the XC90 would barely run, It was running fine when I brought it in. After finding out that Suburban Volvo charged me $60.00 higher then list price for the sensor. I contacted Volvo customer service & they told me that the dealer was independent & could charge what they wanted. She said Volvo would not help.

  • Best vehicle Ive ever owned - 2004 Volvo XC90

Up to 95,000 miles and going strong. Cost more to maintain than my Toyota 4Runner did, but well worth it. The Toyota always felt like work, while the Volvo feels like home. You sit on most seats, but sit in these. Will it easily do 120mph? Without admitting to anything, Id have to say yes. The 5cyl turbo is the way to go, as this engine/trans combo seem to be bullet-proof. I test drove this and the Honda Pilot, and am glad our family of six is moving in the Volvo.
