Overview & Reviews
Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.
- Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
- Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

SUV of the future - 2004 Volvo XC90
By ColoradoMike - December 3 - 2:00 amBought a rare used 2003 XC90 just last month to replace a 1994 Toyota Landcruiser my wife decided she just couldnt handle anymore. SHE LOVES IT and Ive never seen her give a thought to an automobile before. I agree with her completely whenever she lets me behind the wheel. Its good looking, nimble and we feel safe when carting the family around in the Colorado high country.

Very Impressed - 2004 Volvo XC90
By MIS - December 3 - 2:00 amSince this was my first SUV, I really didnt know how I would like the SUV after I bought it. It felt fine during the test drive, but thats only for 15 minutes. After I bought it, I drove it from Phoenix to Portland. It was impressive, comfortable and handled extremely well. Cruising at 80 to 90 was a dream. Im glad that I bought it. I have no further second thoughts.

I love my Volvo! - 2004 Volvo XC90
By FLRich - November 6 - 4:10 pmAfter driving Acuras for years, this is my first Volvo. Although I love Acuras and their reliability, the Acura MDX is just ugly! I love the way the Volvo looks, handles, rides, and the gas mileage is great for a SUV. So far the reliability has been up to par with my Acuras. I love my Volvo. I wouldnt hesitate to buy another one.

Stylish and Sporty with Volvo Safety - 2004 Volvo XC90
By H. Lewis - October 13 - 10:03 amOverall, we are ecstatic and would highly recommend the XC90 T6 AWD! Definitely go with the T6 AWD for maximum enjoyment and we have had it for six months and average 20 mpg which I think is outstanding. Ours is black with black leather interior and turns heads everywhere we go (especially from BMW X5 owners(!)). We also opted for xenon headlights, nav system, high end stereo, 3rd row, integrated child booster seat (which has been perfect for our now 6 year old (5 when we bought it)), sunroof, wood steering wheel, etc. Have to make deals with wife to get chance to drive it as it puts ALL other vehicles (except Range Rover) in pickup line at kids private school to shame.

Have NOT Experienced Any Negatives - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Jack - September 6 - 4:23 amMy wife and I ordered our XC-90 through a local dealership then went over to Sweden to test drive it for a week. Volvo shipped it back for us 10 days later. The vehicle has been perfect for the past 6 years. I am however, quite concerned with all the negative reviews here. Of all the vehicles Ive owned throughout my life, I must admit that this XC-90 beats them all by far.

2004-XC90AWD, 3750 miles and counting - 2004 Volvo XC90
By johng - July 28 - 2:00 amBeing a first time SUV buyer but a 7 year Volvo owner (850GLT) we were already biased toward Volvo but did do considerable research on other brands before we dove in. Although always a little shocked by their sticker prices (and lack of much room for dealing with the dealer, especially on the trade-in) in the end we just think it`s the best overall SUV available today. Mechanically it`s hard to beat. And it`s the best looking SUV by far. And being "safe as a bank vault" has it`s obvious rewards. We are at 3750 pretty hard miles at this point already and so far so good!

One Bad Hombre - 2004 Volvo XC90
By swan23 - May 17 - 10:00 amThis is the SUV for folks who hate SUVs. More like a station wagon on steroids. The most well thought-out car in years, every detail considered down the center arm rest which fold back to hold a sandwhich for the driver. The brakes a smooth as butter, better than my A6, the engine shifts smoother than any car I have ever owned and the only negative I can find is reduced visibility over the left shoulder due to the reinforced pillar which was a trade off for increased roof strength which I would trade anyway. The only car that comes close in price is the Touareg and the rear seat in that is claustrophic.
