This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

Pros:
  • Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
Cons:
  • Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

  • New Volvo parents of a 2004 XC 90 - 2004 Volvo XC90

JUst brought our new baby (XC 90) home this week. Already own a 94 940 Turbo and couldnt wait to have another Volvo in the family (but had to until daughter graduated from college!!!)... She (the SUV) is beautiful and exceeded our expectations. Smooth ride for an SUV, comfortable, and easy to wash (no sharp edges, corners, or protrusions to deal with). I KNOW MY FAMILY WILL BE SAFE FOR YEARS TO COME IN THIS VEHICLE. Its been like x-mas around here since our new "baby" has arrived.

  • NEVER will we buy a Volvo again.. - 2004 Volvo XC90

I am the original owner of this car. We paid MSRP (I know, I know). The car is loaded and was fabulous for about a year. We have had to replace all four tires 4 times, brakes 4 times, transmission, rear bearings.. engine problems, key fob problems, seat belt problem, water leaking... You name it, weve had it. The ONLY thing we did right was buy the extended warranty. Has saved us $10k, easily.

i was looking for an suv that would comfortably convey my growing family safely, drive like a luxury sedan, remain a design statement, and last reliably for a minimum of 10 years. there is no other suv on the market besides the xc90 that matches what i was looking for, a year ago or now. 7500 miles in 8 months, no issues. i promise to repost when i cross the 250000 mile mark.

7500 miles so far and only a few minor annoyances which dealer fixed. Love the free Volvo service loaner. No major problems at all. For a heavy car and only the 2.5T motor, this car does great in the mountains. I frequently leave other cars behind on sharp curves and hills. Average MPG is a respectable 20. Milage has improved over time from just over 16. Engine needs time to break-in. Ride and cornering is oustanding. Sex appeal is very high. I bought mine on their Overseas delivery program and cant wait to buy another Volvo.

We have had the Volov xc90 for over one year, we love it! We purchased it because we wanted a safe family vehicle. We purchased it over the Lexus and BMW, because we wanted more room for cargo. The interior is very flexible for family needs. It was the only SUV at the time that had design feature for safety (air bags, crumple zones etc) for the third row where the children would likely be. We felt that at the time it had the best safety features.

  • MY VOLVO SUV - 2004 Volvo XC90

IN THE PAST YEAR I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE,SECURITY OF SAFETY FOR MYSELF AND PASSENGERS THAT I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED IN ALL MY YEARS DRIVING. THE VOLVO STANDS UP AND BEYOND ALL MY EXPECTATIONS. YOU HAVE TO HAVE ONE!

  • Its all good - 2004 Volvo XC90

This car is a pleasure to drive, and is one of the best looking cars on the road today. The only thing I do not like is the lack of driver headroom...and I am short. I cannot imagine if I was a large person fitting into the Volvo XC90. Aside from a few minor noises we have had no problems at all. We ordered our car, and got a free trip to Sweden to pick it up. What a kick. That alone made buying the car worth it. You need to be patient though because it takes an extra three months to have the car shipped back to the states after picking it up in Europe.

Very poor inital quality. Very slow to make design changes to fix obvious problems. Wait 3 years before buying one as they have many bugs.

  • Great Volvo - 2004 Volvo XC90

This is my first SUV and I am pleased with the handling. I feel safe with the roll over safety features and can comfortably take turns. The seats are very comfortable and the ride is smooth. Gas mileage is as stated on sticker at around 18mpg for some city/highway driving back and forth to work 30 mile round trip.

  • Its always something - 2004 Volvo XC90

Built like a tank, fun to drive, solid feel and loaded with safety features. A great vehicle as long as it is in warranty and your dealer offers a loaner car. This is one vehicle that an extended warranty would probably pay for itself.
