Overview & Reviews
Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.
- Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
- Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

xc90 still a good bet after 2 yr - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Susan - September 6 - 5:50 pmThis is my first Volvo and it has not disappointed. It was purchased for overall safety reasons, and it has been very reliable in the 2 years that I have had it. It is a pleasure to drive. The only problem with performance is the get up and go. It is a little sluggish. The vehicle doesnt get too bad gas mileage. I have been getting 19 mpg in the city and 22-23 on the highway.

a long time waiting - 2004 Volvo XC90
By chrisandpatty - August 30 - 10:00 amAfter waiting 6 months and paying MSRP we now have decided that it was worth the wait. There were times the MDX or the X5 almost won us over but we now have a car as luxurious and certainly for now not as common. The children love all the extra room.

Disappointed... - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Mark Blum - August 24 - 10:00 amPurchased the Volvo after considering several other LUVs. After 3 weeks, Im not sure Id buy another one. It lacks some of the "creature comforts" found in Lexus and Acura and its not as fun to drive as you might expect from the T6 version. The XC90 has a much harsher ride than Id expect from an LUV in this category. Get the wood wheel, its more comfortable to drive.

OOPS - 2004 Volvo XC90
By john perkowski - August 12 - 2:00 amGood long distance runner, very good front seats. optional 18 tires(MXV) POOR in snow and worn out in 18K mi. T6 engine needs a five spd., Four spd auto is a mis-match. Very conveient rear hatch design. Needs a larger fuel tank. Great brakes. Love the styling, outside shape. Overall for the money, keep looking.

Thumper - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Nick - August 9 - 9:13 pmWe have named this car "Thumper". It bumps, it grinds, and makes all kinds of noises in the front end. I have been to 3 different dealers who are unable to correct the noises, even with new brakes and shocks. While the dealers in Orange County and Covina are quite professional, the dealer in Carlsbad is useless. This car has a long way to go to call itself a premium product. There are inadequate service facilities, and I have absolutely no confidence that the vehicle will provide reliable service through the first 100,000 miles. As a suggestion, if anyone buys one, be sure to interview the local Volvo service department. Many are inadequate and they often do not have loaner cars as promised.

I WANT TO CRY!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME !!!! - 2004 Volvo XC90
By xc90w - July 4 - 11:57 pmVOLVO YOU HAVE SOLD A LEMON TO YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS AND THAT WILL CAUSE YOU TO SUFFER GREATLY. This 2004 Volvo xc90 has been a nightmare for me. I spent over $2600 dollars this summer and it continues to add on up. my dash board turns off and i lose power to the rear of the vehicle. This makes this AWD car become FWD!! doesnt make sense but its true and i cant even open my gas door and i have to open it manually from inside. THIS IS THE WORST CAR!! Yesterday the tail light on the passenger went out and some of my front right lights too. "multiple bulbs failure" today i start it and they are all working. WHY do this to your customer VOLVO! VOLVO IS LIFELESS!!!

XC90 Review - 2004 Volvo XC90
By derek135 - June 5 - 10:00 amThe all-new Volvo XC90 is a combination of a station wagon, SUV, and a sedan. The price is O.K with the options included. The engine makes some noise but is barable. Even though it claims to be all-wheel drive, it uses different types of devices to control the wheels which helps the fuel economy and improves the safety of the car. I give this car an 8.5/10.

MD Likes SUV - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Chuck Palilla - May 18 - 2:00 amBeautiful design, inside and out.It hauls my 1200lb. flats boat well.No problem pulling the boat out of the water onto a slippery loading ramp. Fairly good pick up,though lumbers slightly at slower speeds due to its weight. At 65mph plus it has no rival. Most comfortable interior of any suv--it blows away the MB350,X5,MDX and the SRX.
