This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

Pros:
  • Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
Cons:
  • Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

  • My new Volvo T6 AWD - 2004 Volvo XC90

I have only had my Volvo XC 90 for 3 weeks but so far love it. I did a lot of research before deciding on this vehicle. I love it because I have 3 young children and needed a vehicle with a third row, but did not want a minivan or a truck. The Volvo drives the most like a car(compared to others I tested), and still functions like an SUV. The second row seats are very versatile and slide forward so my kids can climb into the third row easily. It is a lot of fun to drive.

  • Continually Frustrated with XC90 - 2004 Volvo XC90

For a $40K+ Auto, Im extremely disappointed with the number of times Ive had to take it in for repairs. The engine & body have been reliable - only 2 or 3 service calls in those areas. The problems with electronics have been numerous. Examples: - New software to close windows properly - Ship CD player back to Sweden to retrieve stuck CDs (10 weeks) - Car doors mysteriously lock themselves - Seats loose their memory every month - Disable intermittent wipers - they go crazy on sunny days Every time we take it to Sesi Volvo, they insist there is nothing wrong. We need to insist they look for service note and they usually find th

This is our 6th Volvo. Smooth and comfortable on the highway. We keep up with the maintenance and have the transmission fluid flushed annually. Best mileage was 23.4 mpg on the highway with premium 93. Most filling stations add 10% ethanol now which has lowered our fuel economy averages.

This is a great vehicle with good power and performance. Styling is awesome and turns heads where ever you go. Gas mileage is a disappointment though.

  • Awesome SUV - 2004 Volvo XC90

We test drove Chevy Tahoes, Toyota Highlanders and 4Runners, Acura MDX and none of them performed like the XC90. Ive always liked Volvos design, and this was exactly what we wanted. 3 rows of seats for kids. Sporty and very functional, plus safe. Once you test drive the XC90 on a mountain road verses the others, youll choose the XC90.

  • Just bought the T6 AWD XC-90 - 2004 Volvo XC90

We compared this car with the Lexus RX330. Both were great. The Lexus has better luxury features and the Volvo is more rugged. Unfortunately, Lexus couldnt touch Volvos price. I do like the car and it is fun to drive, but for the high price of the car, it would be nice to have the upgraded luxuries as standard. Add a towing hitch, running boards, or navigation and get ready to pay pretty penny. Running boards alone=$850. Also, turbo chargers make a loud whistling noise which dealer says is unavoidable.

  • Great for Cross Country drive - 2004 Volvo XC90

Drove my XC90 all over Europe and from the East coast to the West coast - great performance. Averaged 18mpg but also had a large Thule roof carrier which dragged the milage down approx. 2mpg. Overall an awesome vehicle. Had a problem with a pedal sensor when I picked up the vehicle in Annapolis, MD but dealer quickly repaired it.

  • Best SUV Ever - 2004 Volvo XC90

Absolutely love this SUV. Best vehicle I have ever own, hands down. Safe. Reliable. Kid friendly. Just all sound great SUV.

  • Awesome 5 cylinders - 2004 Volvo XC90
    By -

This is the vehicle Porsche should have built. Its lighter in weight by 900 pounds than the Cayenne, and it has a great little 5-cylinder that delivers all the torque right there at 1500 rpm. Very thoughtful, great engineering, beautiful concept, I hated to see the V8 come along because the model was unique without it in the showrooms.

  • Near-perfect family vehicle - 2004 Volvo XC90
    By -

Great car for Mom AND Dad. Well- appointed, worth every $. Lots of smart family features. Comfortable seats, great audio (upgrd), good visibility. Smart layout, good finish. Our first Volvo and likely not our last.
