This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

Pros:
  • Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
Cons:
  • Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

  • My First Volvo!! - 2004 Volvo XC90

I currently own a 2003 BMW 530i, which I LOVE to drive and I needed a people mover thats stylish, safe (3 kids) comfortable and good on gas. Saw the XC90 last yr when it came out and was impressed with its styling. Fell in love with it on my test drive. I drove a friends X5 and was not happy with the ride, ruled out the Touareg and the Cayenne because of the lack of the third row, the MDX because its just an expensive Pilot and Im not a fan of American SUVs (too big, trucky and bad on gas).Anyone looking at luxury level SUVs to definitely check this one out before making their final decision. Volvo did good with this one!!

Feels like driving a sedan, but you have available all the features of a SUV. Unsurpassed safety. Fun for the kids - dvd screen and ability to integrate, view and play electronic games, perfect for long trips.

I have read 20 pages of reviews and wonder how I managed to get one of the good ones. I get in, start the engine, engage the transmission and go. We have been doing this for 117K miles. Replace tires every 40,000 miles, front brake pads at 72K miles and timing belt at 111K (scheduled maintenance). I suppose I must have low expectations because we have been satisfiew with this vehicle. This is my 4th Volvo and the most user friendly. Not as fast as our S80 t but more practical. Our other vehicle is a 2000 BMW Z3 so when more than two go, this is the horse we ride. I average 21 mpg, not great but without a car payment ( do not feel the need to replace every 3 years)

This is the most car like ride you can get from a SUV... It is fun to drive.

  • An eye-catcher - 2004 Volvo XC90

Great looks. Great ride. The most comfortable vehicle Ive driven. Gas mileage has been better than expected at 21-22 on the highway. Very tight handling for a truck. Got the upgrade on the sound system which is well worth it. No complaints whatsoever. Were a 3-Volvo family and love every one of them.

This is my wife and my first entry into the luxury SUV market. We have really enjoyed the ride, luxury, and utility of the XC 90. I have taken the Volvo "Drive For Life" class and now feel like we have one of the safest vehicles on the road today. With gas prices climbing, the average mpg is a concern. I also own a Toyota Prius, which is my commuter car. We will always choose the XC 90 for longer trips, gas prices be damned.

We drove everything. Coming out of a 1998 Lexus LX 470, which is a pretty tough act to follow. Every car we drove we would come back to the XC 90. A blast to drive. Extremely good balance of appointments, fun factor, safety, good looks, fuel economy (compared to the LX 470). Hard to get a hold of a loaded T6, so count on paying sticker and probably waiting up to 3 months, but worth the wait. Did I say a blast to drive!!!

  • STAY AWAY FROM XC90 T6 MODEL!!! - 2004 Volvo XC90

Worst and final Volvo I will own. I purchased i in 2007, NOTHING but trouble. Over 2,500 in repairs to front end, and then the transmission went at 79k At this point I traded it in on a Chevy Tahoe Z71. Much happier and havent had nearly as much trouble. Volvo customer service and dealership were horrible. I have owned 4 Volvos and after this experience I will never buy Volvo again. Nothing but problems. VERY dissatisfied.

T-6, Crystal Green w Oak Interior with Premium, Climate and Versatility Package: Navigation, Bi-Xenon, Wood Wheel and Rear Parking Assistance. 16-18 mpg City/20-22 mpg Hwy This car is that much and more. I have owned many nice vehicles but I have never felt better about purchasing a car in my life. The 2.9l engine has sufficient power and is metered crisply on the 4 speed transmission. While the engine does not feel sluggish even with a full load, I plan to have the Engine Control Unit (ECU) reporgrammed by IPD to deliver more power.
