This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

Pros:
  • Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
Cons:
  • Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

  • One of the best Volvo - 2004 Volvo XC90

I own this car for 1 year now, the car is beautiful, drives like regular sedan, good performance, and adequate horsepower for tasks. The 3rd row seat is very well designed, even its a bit small compare to other makess 3rd row seat, but the safety feature of Volvo is absolutely unsurpassed. Even though its not the biggest when compare to Hondas Pilot, Toyotas Sequoia, Acuras MDX, but its definitely one of the best designed, best builded, and most fun to drive.

  • Such a great car! - 2004 Volvo XC90

I was hesitant to get what I thought was a pretty fancy car, but it was such a good purchase. The car really is many things all at once. It drives like a sports car even with a 5 cylinder engine. It packs gear like a big car yet is not a tremendous SUV. It handles sketchy terrain well yet hums down the highway very politely. The interior is thoughtful and well crafted. And on top of that, it really seems to make some conscious effort to be a thoughtful car (ultra low emmision engine, safety features for both occupants and pedestrians). Luxurious without being offensive. Not a single problem mechanically.

  • I wanted to like it BUT... - 2004 Volvo XC90

Loaded T6 Accel poor unless you slam it to the floor. Slow to downshift Suspension mediocre. This car never feels even a hint of sporty in corners. Seats: Cant get comfortable Lights: "auto" on feature so when it gets dark they turn on, but the high beams wont function in that mode. Rain sensing wipers: Adjust the intermittent control and the rain sensor takes over anyway. "Approach lights": You have to push a separate button on the keyfob from unlock N/V/H... This car makes nasty noises sometimes and never seems smooth. Squeeks and rattles already forming at 10K miles. Build Quality: Doors need to be slammed, compartments stick.

Comfortable to ride in and drive. Very roomy interior. Rear fold down seats are very handy when needed. Spacious storage as well. Handles well.

After reviewing and comparing cars for a year we chose to purchase the Volvo XC90. We were even treated to a tour of the factory in Sweden as an incentive for our purchase. We are thrilled with our car and would recommend it to anyone interested in a luxury SUV with all the extras at an affordable price!!!

  • Best car I have ever owned - 2004 Volvo XC90

I have never had a better experience with a car. I have owned a Honda, Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Toyota, and this Volvo has by far been the best car out of all my experiences. I have over 130,000 miles on it and it runs like it is new. I have never kept a car this long, but I never want to get rid of it! I have taken really good care of this car and kept up all the maintenance, so maybe if you dont thats where the problems come in that other people are having.

  • What are you waiting for - 2004 Volvo XC90

The 2004 Volvo XC90 hits a home run in my book. The car has everything you could want in ANY vehicle, it just so happens to be a SUV. First rate styling inside and out , fantastic fuel economy 18/24,all the safety features you could ask for at a price, that while not the cheapest on the lot, puts most of the other so called Luxury vehicles to shame. The best Navigation system out there.Ive had 3 others before and not one can match it for ease of use and accuracy.

We love the styling and performance of the XC90 but it hasnt really been trouble-free especially considering the price and class its in. Although minor, we had to replace the horn, headlamp wiring harness, a bad sensor which caused hard starting and a transmission seal gasket (had minor leak). All taken cared by the warranty but it makes you wonder how reliable and expensive it will be to maintain after the warranty expires. Of course, nothing is trouble-free but overall we are happy with the vehicle
