Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

• Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.

• Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

  Great car, very flexable, comfortable both on the road as well as during light offroading. Gas milage good except for during hard acceleration. Gets slightly better than EPA milage

  OVERALL, I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED. FUEL ECONOMY CAN CERTAINLY BE IMRPOVED UPON. I AVERAGE 14 IN CITY DRIVING AND AROUND 18 HIGHWAY. WONDERING IF I HAD NOT CHOSEN THE TURBO 6 I COULD HAVE GOTTEN BETTER MILEAGE. FEW MINOR COMPLAINTS BUT OVERALL A SOLID VEHICLE.

  Dont really need the T6 model as the power is fine in the 2.5 is fine. Great family vehicle but still lets dad be sporty

  From the beginning gas leak inside the car repaired by dealer. General western warranty all but worthless on most costly parts. Spring seats not covered. Electronic module not covered ABS not covered. Cost thousand of dollars. Every maintenance check is $400 or more, and you must maintain or waste warranty. Is that reliability in our auto world today?

  In shop over 37 days. Chronic brake & steering problems, still not resolved. Generally takes multiple visits to get anything fixed, and the fixes seem often to be band-aids rather than actual fixes. Zero confidence in the build quality of this vehicle. Its supposed to be a safe car, but you have to be able to drive it to benefit.

  I was really looking forward to own the XC 90, I ordered it in Dec,2002 and took delivery in May, 2003. I got one of the first 2004 models. My whole family loves this car. I understand that Volvo had some problems with some of the earier 2003 models, so I was very exited when I found out ours was a 2004.

  We have the 2.5L turbo. It has been very good with only minor repairs. Tires and front brakes at 45000 miles. I dont know why others say tires every 22000 miles. A pleasure to drive and will keep it for another 10 years!

  Transmissions awful! - 2004 Volvo XC90

  We bought our 2004 xc90 nov. 2007 with 57,000 and it has been a great SUV. Very strong but when the transmission light went on at 87,000 I was not a happy customer. We called the Volvo dealer and they told us to bring it in. They were very helpful and we have a "brand new" transmission at no cost, yet it doesnt have "manual" anymore. a lot of drama but its driving well and I cant complain

  15K miles and lovin it! - 2004 Volvo XC90

  We have put 15K miles and like the quietness of interior, comfort, good acceleration for passing, great sound. My wife wanted navigation system, I didnt, but now I love it. Had a problem with brakes, not a safety problem, light said "needs service", it took four trips to get it solved.
