Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.
- Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
- Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

My whole family loves this car. I understand that Volvo had some problems with some of the earier 2003 models, so I was very exited when I found out ours was a 2004.

15K miles and lovin it! - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Mike McNutt - February 18 - 2:00 amWe have put 15K miles and like the quietness of interior, comfort, good acceleration for passing, great sound. My wife wanted navigation system, I didnt, but now I love it. Had a problem with brakes, not a safety problem, light said "needs service", it took four trips to get it solved.

By SWilhelm - January 18 - 7:56 amCity driving,highways or rural dirt roads have yet to defeat my car.My XC is usually moms taxi but when the kids are at school I still love to take it for long runs down winding country roads. It may never match hi-performance cars Ive driven but its still quick enough and certainly handles very well.The low pressure turbo kicks in to make even highway merging stress free. True 4WD if needed.It has yet to be stranded even in deep MI snows.W mode makes for safe handling for us even on the icy roads. Those Ive met that REALLY own one,love it. The dealership has performed as well as my car has. Volvo has been good 2 us. For those who like a car but need something bigger it fits.A keeper.

The Perfect SUV - 2004 Volvo XC90

Although the great demand limited some of my option choices, I can state without equivication that this is the finest atomobile Ive ever owned. The well thought out cabin, the versatility of the 3rdseat and the safety of the gyroscopic anti-roll technology is unbeatable, not to metion the finest car like ride that any SUV could offer.

By Mary - November 6 - 12:46 amMy XC90 gets 20.8 MPG on the highway, and about 19 MPG in the city. It has always been solid and reliable in the rain and even occasional ice storm. It burns regular, is great for making large item shoppoing trips, has plenty of power for acceleration and passing, and it handles better than my previous Mercedes CLK 320! Something to keep in mind about gas mileage is that you have to let the car break in! This car only got 14.5 MPG for about the first 3 weeks of regular driving, but the benefits were definitely worth the wait.

UNREAL! - 2004 Volvo XC90
By Paul in PA - September 26 - 10:00 amIm coming off a hideous Blazer experience. The XC90 is incredible. Fantastic in every aspect! Im even getting 24.5 mpg right now and have gotten 25 (highway of course with the 5 cyl.). You have to watch the instantaneous mpg closely to get that. The Edmunds reviewer says power is lacking??? Even with my 5 cyl turbo this thing takes off like a raped ape. My little Prelude cant do any better. I dont know what he was driving. Passing on the highway is like a dream - you see a spot and youre there!! The navigation system is incredible. The ONLY drawback is the premium gas. What the heck if you can afford this car you can buy premium.
