This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

Pros:
  • Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
Cons:
  • Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

HAVE HAD 5 SUVS BEFORE THE VOLVO AND NONE FEEL AS SOLID AND SAFE AS THIS ONE. YOU LOSE LITTLE WITH THE SMALLER ENGINE BECAUSE YOU HAVE A 5 SPEED TRANS VS 4 SPEED TRANS IN THE BIGGER ENGINE. DROVE BOTH- COULD BARELY TELL THE DIFF. TINY BIT OF TURBO LAG FROM ZERO TO 5 MPH , OTHERWISE NO COMPLAINTS.

Looks great, drives great and has all the ammentities one would want in a luxury car. It is tops in safety and has more room inside than other more expensive midsize SUVs. Lots of power!

  • SUV that was worth the wait! - 2004 Volvo XC90

My wife and I had been short-listing SUVs since May of 2002. We had narrowed our choices down to a fully loaded GMC Envoy or the Acura MDX. Envoys ride was not as good as Acura. Just as we were to make our choice in January, my wife read a piece on the XC90. Ordered Feb. 1, picked up July 4, in time for holiday. In short WE LOVE IT. Make sure to get the Dolby Surround and the sub-woofer. The sound is perfect! The ride is excellent (nearly car- like on twisting country roads)! Factory window tinting is plenty. Have black leather seats and on 95° day was not too hot to sit on. The 2.5 with turbo offered plenty of oomph when needed.

I have owned many different makes of cars including Jeep, Lexus, Mercedes, and BMW. The XC-90,however, is the most comfortable to drive. It is roomy inside and has overall terrific handling. I have owned Lexus RX300S,a Mercedes ML320 and other SUVs. Although the other SUVs were good, the XC-90 is far superior.

As my first experience owning an SUV, I was worried about handling the size. This Volvo XC90 has been wonderful. The narrower build makes the vehicle handle more like a car. At the same time, the three rows of seating have given our family of five all the comfort and convenience we wanted. We highly recommend the vehicle.

So far so good. Well constructed solid vehicle with good, although not stellar low-end acceleration. Handles extremely well - reminiscent of German car feel. Options include a superior DVD-based nav system, versatility pkg w/3rd row seating that can accomodate two large adults, large wood steering wheel and bi-xeon headlights. Cant quite figure out the reason why the high beams dont stay in the on position when I pull the blinker stem in - but Ill toss that up to either not reading the manual or a small glitch with the high-beams.

  • Among the best - 2004 Volvo XC90

This is the best vehicles my wife and I have ever owned. We narrowed it down to the BMW X5 3.0, Acura MDX, Mercedes ML320, Infiniti FX35. For us a boxy SUV didn’t cut it, we wanted something a bit sportier. The BMW was our first choice until we drove it, too jittery, the Acura was nice and a bargain for the price but the interior was dull, the plastics looked cheap, and the outside resembles a mini-van, the Infiniti felt too much like a sports car and the ride was to stiff. The XC90 is a perfect blend of quality, comfort, fun to drive, loads of safety features, style, class, value, great transmition, and did I mention loads of safety features.

Great car, very flexable, comfortable both on the road as well as during light offroading. Gas milage good except for during hard acceleration. Gets slightly better than EPA milage
